In the Herald Sun today:
"Despite the club's excellent year, a raft of changes may still be made by the blues.

The club has already sacrificed its first round draft pick - No.11 - for Melbourne midfielder Brock Mclean.

The blues have made it known running onballer Andrew Walker is available for the right selection, with forward Brad Fisher also set to be traded.

Former No.1 pick Walker could have been thrown into the McLean deal, but in the end the Demons were happy with the No.11 selection"

Seems like they were quite keen to get McLean if they were willing to trade a first rounder + a former No.2 pick.
What would be an acceptable trade for a former No.2 selection who's never really been able to reach his potential do you think?

Former number 2 selection.

There is no point in trading Walker as we will only get something worth his output thus far which is at its lowest ebb. You trade talented players on an upswing, not on a downswing.

I don't think they mean this.

If Walker was on the table for McLean it would have been more like a straight swap, possibly with us adding a third rounder.

No way they turn down/or we offer Walker and pick 11 for McLean.

As for the HUN, this rumour has been around a few days, and at this time of year the "news"papers are as bad at reporting gossip and rumour as SEN......in fact I suspect SEN is the source (via talkback) for most of this......and what they don't get there they find on this forum.

If the club has "made it known" then where is the attributable quote?;)

We had no probs saying we wanted Everitt.......very up front about McLean........so why not about this?

Maybe Walker for Lovett

Lovett has walked out? Is he going in to the PSD or is he staying on Essendon's list for a trade?
Even still, this would be an unfavourable trade for Carlton....

I have a feeling carlton have done this just to see what they can get for him. Doubt they are serious about trading him, but then again, if the right deal comes along....

Not the first time Walks name has been bandied around trade time

For what it's worth, on Talking Carlton DOA - Walks's dad, and if you question this, he was spot on in a number of occasions with the medicals on AW's arm and other info, well before it was published in the media - has said that AW recently signed a 2 year deal on Wednesday

Added to that, as far as the Brock deal went, AW or his manager never had discussions about a possible trade. While that doesn't mean his name wasn't bandied about, it may mean that it was never seriously considered

He also said that AFL is ruthless and you can't b surprised at anything

Get the impression the club is considering it but wants something pretty major in return. Question is would anyone jump as much as the Blues want for a very talented player whose been injured for 2 years?

Doubt it very much, but as DOA said you can't be surprised at anything

nooooooooooooooooooooooo...

It would want to be something damn good in return if it did happen.

This rumour has been comprehensively debunked at TC.

I believe the HUN story to be spot on - Mclean story was being bandied Monday at the same time as Walker was mentioned. I understand Hughes / Ratten believe the draft top 6 to be of good quality and then to be very even from 7 to about 20. Walker being floated as a way of trading back in to first round in contemplation of McLean trade - so the 2 are kind of connected.

Walker isn't worth enough in a trade for us to consider it IMO. He has oodles of talent but injuries have plagued his career. We'd only get a 2nd rounder or laste 1st rounder at best.

He's worth more to us than that. Give him 22 full games next year and then discuss our options.

I, for one, hope Tex has a bolter of a season next year lives up to his hype. He deserves it.

If we are going to put someone on the table at least make it a player who isnt critial to our structure and we will get a good return for (eg. Kreuzer, Gibbs, Hampson). Next they will put Setanta O'hAilpin on the table...

WTF!!! WALKER
IS THIS A JOKE... FINALLY HE LOOKS LIKE HE IS GETTING OVER HIS INJURY AND CARLTON WANT TO TRADE HIM.. THERE IS A REASON WHY HE WENT AT NUMBER 2 BUT INJURY HAS STOPED HIM FROM SHOWING US WHY WE PICKED HIM AT #2.

EXTREMELY BAD DECISION TO ATTEMPT TO TRADE HIM:mad::thumbsd::thumbsd::thumbsd: ALSO HERD ESSENDON ARE IN THE RUNNING.. ALSO WBULLDOGS FOR EVERITT

Most overated player on our list. He can not kick and this will never improve. I am sick to death of hearing about how much talent he has. If the right trade is put up then I would gladly move him on. He will never reach his potential as something will always go wrong with him.
We need to take the rose coloured glasses off with Walks and look at the output he is producing. I know I will cop grief regarding this but to many blues fans talk him up in such glowing terms but he has produced SFA.

He won't go anywhere. Nobody will give up the price Carlton will demand.

Walker with a solid pre season and with games under his belt could really come on next year. It's really frustrating when people say things like 'he never reached his potential'. It's as if he's a lost cause - and it's completely a load of bulldust. How is he supposed to make any inroads when he's been injured? There's nothing to stop him from taking those steps in the coming years if he stays injury free.

If you're talking about the rumours on the Essendon board, they're talking about Taylor Walker, not Andrew

One jump up too much at the media rumours (how often are they actually right?), AW signed a new 2 year deal 2 days ago (Wednesday) . Having said that, you never know ...

Guys, look at page 1 of this thread.

This has been debunked on Talking Carlton.

To paraphrase: Jon Ralph known Carlton hater wrote the story without even realising that he'd inked a two-year contract. That's pretty sloppy. If he'd bothered to talk to anyone at the club (clearly his source is not at the club) that little fact might have made its way into the story. Pretty good indication that his source is rubbish. And the Talking Carlton sources are pretty impeccable.

So everyone relax.

Unless there is some out of the world offer he's going absolutely nowhere and we'll soon enough get what we've waited for!

Not here to give grief, but seek your reasons.

To me, Walks still needs to improve to action his potential. His skills were very poor early on but have improved. He's basically missed 2 years so I don't understand how he could have improved during this period. Of the games he did play this year, these were his following stats:

Rnd 18 - 13 disposals with a 69% efficiency, team average 71%
Rnd 19 - 16 possessions with a 69% efficiency, team average 78%
Rnd 20 - 23 possessions with a 78% efficiency, team average 74%
Rnd 21 - 18 possessions with a 83% efficiency, team average 80%
Rnd 22 - 30 possessions with a 70% efficiency (in a game were we got smashed), team average 76%

This from a player who missed most of the season, and shows his output.

In 2007 he came in the top 10 of the B&F, after carrying a bad shoulder injury from round 15 on

In 2006 he came 6th in the B&F

It may be true that he'll get injured again, we don't know. However by the same token I don't understand how we know that his kicking will NEVER improve and he will ALWAYS get injured.

I don't think it's a matter of wearing rose coloured glasses, but having a look at his output and the potential for improvement. He's very quick and we need that pace, and he's also capable of getting a bundle of possessions with okay efficiency.

I'm very curious to see how he'd go with a proper pre-season behind him, and wouldn't be wanting to put him in the bin yet

T.E I couldn't agree more. Toward the end of the year (as your stats prove) he was playing some bloody good footy. I would be severly pissed if they trade him.:thumbsd:

Glad that u cleared that up about Taylor Walker

But if he signed a new deal 2 days ago then i find it really hard that they would want to trade him a couples days later
