Yes good post exorcist. But the reason we looked a million dollars in the last quarter against the Swans, was that the pace and pressure of the Swans had diminished.Better teams put pressure for longer periods of time, and we tend to wilt and succumb. This then reflects on decision making and technical skills which become poor.

But when you have already poor techincal skills it is is mode even worse when the pressure is on. By game plan i mean sticking to structures when things are going badly so you can limit the damage? To do this every player must be aware of their role in the side and what do to in these situations?

It should be automatic at this level? When to zone, how to do it? Yes we are young and still learning, But sides like the SWANS, who in my view were not the most skillful side, won a premiership and were one point away of winning another won. The plan here is they had a specific game plan, that got fined tuned to a point when all players adhered to it to the letter.

Adelaide Collingwood and STkilda a prime examples of this. Why? BC they have the right coaching and development staff who are on the same page. And most importantly pass it on to there players who adhere to it. Hopefully we wiil develop such game plans that reflects the ability of our list in the future. That means intense practice, turnover of our list not on a large scale i agree. And most importantly the abillity of our coaching staff to teach our players WHEN,HOW and for WHOM. ON Hampson i stand corrected, young developing KID from a basketball or soccer background. Just hope he devolops into something pretty good as we picked him in the early Twenties i think?

Pretty good post to a point. The sides you have named still have key older experienced players in key positions. Carlton's list has completely turned over in the last 3 years, and would have the least average games played. If they all play another 50 games on average together and still produce the same mixed (good/poor) performances, then I think you can make the point, but right now, our entire defence is 20 years old except for Thornton (missed games) and waite (out for season).

St Kilda has had a great list for 4-5 years but only look under Lyon to have the right game plan just this year. Funnily enough, all their talented youth has hit the 23-27 age range and 100-150+ games. Following a game plan to the letter under extreme pressure takes age + games played.

But you are right, we have holes and players with less marking+ kicking skills. If we don't rectify this then we don't get a premiership, we just get finals in this window of opportunity. Having said that, Carlton has come off such a low list base most of these guys like Armfield do improve our list and are worth our low picks...I still wish Hughes could jag a Broughton/Duffield (rookies) over an Armfield type!

l believe a significant number of Carlton's fans continue to over-rate our list.
Our performance against Essendon a month ago showed some real holes, a one dimensional game plan and a number of players that clearly are not up to standard against the better sides.

Look forward to any comments on these points.

Yet our game vs the Saints, Dogs and Lions shows that when we work hard (for 3 quarters at least), and hit targets we can be as good as any team in the comp.

We are searching for consistency, not a new list. Yes, some players will be turned over, but others will mature and get the consistency which at the moment we don't have.

Well said except Hoops I think he was good and we desperately need him in the team.

Re Stevens, Skinny fit stevo is in our best 6 and fat stevo is in our best 12
Dont see Stevens main issue being his weight. Would say a mentally stable Stevo is in our best 6 and the normal minded Stevo is best 12 as some weeks he will be great and other weeks terrible. Perhaps a bit late for him to get his head right.

Collingwood fielded a much younger side than both Carlton/Essendon.

Uh no.

Carlton's average age for this weeks match was 23 years 3 months. 64.7 average games played.

Collingwood's was 24 years 6 months. 90.9 average games played.

Essendon's was 24 years 9 months. 89.8 average games played.

Carlton are exactly a season and a half behind experience wise, which puts us about right according to where i always thought we'd start challenging for the premiership... 2011.
