at least they can console themselves that they finished above Collingwood on percentage.

that's deemed a winning season for perennial losers like Carlton
Remember when Carlton beat Collingwood by 10 goals in 2012, and their supporters carried on like they had just won the flag?

Made the GF that year due to the McIntyre system with the top 2 losers advance to week 2
yeah I know, was around then, 1998 was a bit similar with the Demons beating the Crows and then the Crows winning the flag.

But it still felt wrong. Blues were a top 8 fringe side who moved into 6th a month out from finals when they narrowly beat the dogs. They weren't really perceived as a serious threat to the top few, would've been long odds to make the GF going into that series.

Is this as noteworthy as it first appears tho?
If Carlton are playing a final away, then it means they finished lower than their opposition and would have headed into each of these matches as the underdog.

How does this stack up against every other team over the same time period?

So says a club thats lost 27 grand finals 25% of which were to Carlton.
We have made finals 15 times this century, played in 7 Grand Finals (2W-4L-1D) vs you guys making the finals and not winning interstate

Blues are the worst, every other Melb side has won at least one including Essendon

Awesome! Thank you.

I guess this counts the finals games in 20 and 21, which to be fair counts as an away game from Melbourne like the OP stated. I probably wouldn’t count neutral games but keeping them in or taking them out the Blose still have a worse record than the other Victorians

At least we can win a finals game in Melbourne i suppose. Some other clubs have spent the last twenty years trying to win a finals game both in Melbourne and interstate!:laughv1:
