Beauty & Style Cat calling?

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Did you do it in Harlem? From what I have heard tourists are more likely to get pick pocketed/mugged over there(USA). An obvious tourist walking circles of Harlem for a few hours would definitely be interesting to watch.

never come across any trouble myself and I've always been on my own however places like Harlem I wouldn't even risk.

I wonder where the Collingwood footballer was at when he injured his hand supposedly from a mugger.

Cat calling is just lame and disrespectful. I can't see how it is connected to rape? And this "rape" culture some women talk about? What "rape" culture. This is massively offensive to men as a whole. There is no rape culture in Australia or western society.

Rape culture was a term that was originally coined in the 70's to describe attitudes surrounding very specific cases of rape. Namely the DC rape crisis and prison rape. It has since been bastardized by tumblr warriors to describe anything and everything that makes them slightly uncomfortable. From a bloke staring at them he wrong way to someone making a joke about rape.

He was in LA.

This thread is ****ed and half the blokes in it are ****ed. Every woman I know regularly has to put up with bullshit ranging from a group of guys stopping their conversation to just watch her walk by, to actual vile shit being spat at them. None of it is ok, and these campaigners pretending it doesn't happen a lot or it's just a compliment and women should accept it or whatever can go die in a fire.

Being a middle class white male I am probably not particularly qualified to comment on what is/isn't rape culture, but I believe the logic is something like this:
> Guy's catcalling women objectifies them; makes them sexual objects
> Implies that men dominate sexual relations
> Implies men decide who/what/when/where sex happens
> Implies women are passive in this process; they're there to serve men's desires
> Implies women's consent is unnecessary in sexual relations
> Creates 'rape culture'

That's my very basic understanding of it. Is there a 'rape culture' in Australia? I dunno, I've seen some guys be ****ing creeps to girls when out and say some terrible stuff to them; there probably is. Note: just because I've said that, it doesn't mean it applies to every person within Australian/Western society. It's just a nefarious section of the population which is part of it.

of course we have a rape culture, why right now my mates and I are trying to decide what to do this weekend. dave, chris and myself want to get on the piss down at the workers, but mitch, tim and moe want to get their rape. such a hard choice, a few drinks? or the most disgusting crime known to man?

absurd leaps of logic there

The examples I often hear about rape culture are so inconsistent. One you mentioned yourself is over sexualisation of women but surely that would be better labled as a sexualised culture rather than 'rape' culture.

Using rape culture a a blanket term for the objectification of women is not only disingenuous but it also detracts from legitimate argument and debate about gender issues in our society.

Show me where 1 poster has said it's okay for women to have vile stuff "spat" at them? (I assumed when you say "spat" you are referring to spoken word)

Objectification is another bullshit term. Apparently "being attacted to" a woman is now considered some sort of crime. Just because you find someone attractive, that doesn't mean you don't respect them or view them solely as a sex object.

Harlem's being gentrified at a steady rate I believe.

Society governs that men have to do the asking. This is indoctrinated in us from our first primary school disco where the boys have to ask the girls to dance. Whilst it doesn't have to be this way, a guy can't be expected to wait around and be asked out by a girl. Until this changes, girls just have to get used to the fact that guys will hit on them.

Were you born in the '50s?

I see. So you think this isn't the case? I think you might be on your own with this one.

Boys typically do the asking. Tell me, how many women do you know who have proposed to their boyfriends? It's quite rare. This is the social dynamic that has been set for a long long time.

Again: Girls need to get used to attention from males. Too often I see women complain about unwanted attention (I'm not talking cat calls, groping, or anything else ranging from disrespectful to sexual harassment). They can't expect to get attention from guys they are interested in and then complain about attention from guys they aren't interested in.

Just recently a female colleague of mine made this comment:

"I was at a cafe recently reading a book and a number of guys approached me. F*** off, I want to be alone and read a book. Why do men think it's okay to just approach any woman they want".

This is a pretty standard attitude of women these days and it's amazingly short sighted.

To women: so you have to deal with guys trying to pick you up all the time? Deal with it princess.

OH THE HUMANITY!!!!

Mate it makes people distinctly uncomfortable. If there are a bunch of blokes sitting by a footpath, and they stop what they're doing and just stare at you in silence as you walk by (which happens to women a lot), it's ****ing creepy. It makes people feel like shit. Why should people be made to feel like shit? Do you have an empathy deficit?

You almost certainly know at least a couple of blokes that have sexually assaulted someone, and probably more than a couple of women that have had that happen to them.

Not necessarily stalking down down an alley sort of stuff. But groping/digital penetration while a woman is really drunk at that sort of thing? Definitely.

No one here is saying that's cool though. I have been surprised at how many guys think it's okay to grope women in tight crowds, esp at night clubs. It's not okay.

But my stance on this thread is about women who think it's not okay for men to try pick them up. If you have a problem with anything specifically that I have posted then you should point it out.

Pretty shit. Go say g'day if you want to try and get in with her. She'll definitely be flattered that way even if she rejects you. But cat-calling... huge space for just making her feel self conscious, embarrassed, and probably intimidated.
No.
Girl logic: spend hours getting ready just to ignore whoever gives them attention...
They're not dressing to impress you. They don't know you. They don't care about you. They don't owe you shit.
I don't think men are to blame for this. Women sexualise themselves to attract men. Either to actually attract men, or use the attention to validate themselves.

As bad as that sounds, it is what it is. It's a shame we're pretending this isn't the case.
Doesn't mean anyone's entitled to say shit to them.

This post makes no sense. Don't say hello to a stranger?
Edit: sorry, misread, ignore this

What are you referring to here? Hooking up with a woman while she is drunk?

You missed the point, its sexist to think cat calling a woman is sexist and part of a rape culture. Its another example of how the womans rights movements has been hijacked by feminists.

I'll just leave this here, maybe someone will get it.
