Cats secure Tenace

Geelong has selected Kane Tenace from the Murray Bushrangers with its first pick in the 2004 National AFL Draft. Tenace, who stands at 182cm, is an outstanding midfield prospect, aged 18.
Mark Blake is a forward/ruckman who would have gone top 10 if he wasn't taken under the father-son rule, so it's fair enough to expect us to select the best player available with our first round pick.Originally posted by Dasher39
Although I am sure Kane is an absolute gun, the fact remains he is a MIDFIELDER!! We dont need anymore midfielders, we have plenty of them and now we have added another to the list. Why?![]()
Sure, some people will say "You select the best player available" well if that player is not what you need then you let him go. Fergus Watts was available and is a gun forward, exactly what we need. Instead we pass in a forward, and go for another midfielder. When will our club learn. We put all this effort into trying to recruit a Forward in trade week, and then come National Draft day we throw all that out of the window and select ANOTHER midfielder.
We picked up a key forward in Matthew Spencer. He's one of those players who will put their body on the line; always presenting himself at a marking contest and giving it a red hot go. Also add to that that he is pretty strong.Originally posted by Dasher39

Geelong has lacked a quality small forward and with Chapman looking to play more of a midfield role and Ablett to spend more time in the middle as well, I can understand why we went with Thurley. Perhaps it will be 4th time lucky with Tassie players in recent times, and the way I look at it, Thurley has to be better then either Brockman, Bennett or Street.Originally posted by BigCat1
Thurley at 22 was a shock. The more i think about it the more I can't believe it. Why you'd overlook a guy like Moody (or another for that matter) for a guy who has been a serviceable VFL player for three years has got me stuffed!

I'm happy to give the club the benefit of the doubt until we see how Thurley goes and also who we get in the pre-season draft.Originally posted by BigCat1
i don't have a problem if they think he's good enough but i can't see why they wasted pick 22 on him. Why not just use pick 54 on him. So what if we don't get a pick in the PSD. I forgot we may miss out on Shannon Motlop![]()
