I have been a critic of CC in times past, but I think that his record as coach of Fremantle speaks for itself. Let's say for the minute that we lose to Port on Saturday and miss the finals.

2002 - 9 wins 13 losses
2003 - 14 wins 9 losses (includes one final)
2004 - 11 wins 11 losses
2005 - 11 wins 11 losses
------------------------
Overall - 45 wins 44 losses. (51% winning ratio)

Now that's only average, but compare it to Freo's record from 1995-2001.

47 wins 106 losses (31% winning ratio)

This would make him our best performed coach by a country mile. Yes in some ways they have underachieved, but who would we get instead? Would it really make that much of a difference?

Freo's so called amazing list has proved to be somewhat lacking and in need of further development. To that end we've got 4 essentially first year players in Mundy, Peake, Crowley and Dodd playing most weeks. That's not a bad effort for the season. And Pavlich has turned into an absolute champion. Sandilands is coming along well. Haddrill will be back and fit next year. Hayden will be playing.

Win lose or draw on Saturday, I think CC deserves his 2 more years.

Roll on 2006. :)

Yep great move

Have a look at Gary Ayres record
http://www.allthestats.com/coaches/coach.php?id=284

Adelaide 2004 8 wins 14 lost
Adelaide 2005 16 wins 5 lost

Took over the team that Won back to back and ran it down just like he did at Geelong.

Adelaide has still got a fair core of Premiership & finals experienced players.

Poor comparison.

Have a look at
Pagan at Carlton
Malthouse at the Pies
Even ND at Melbourne.

All took over Spoon teams.

Good points about his record.

I love the arguments about how he inherited this list that he should have done better with. Same list that won the spoon. And the changes that a list goes thropugh in a three year period are enormous.

Would have liked to have won a few of the earlier games we played in the season and finished a bit higher than we seem likely to, but given the injuries an okay effort. not a great year, but okay.

POSITIVES;
The forward line restructure. Still developing, but huge changes from last year.

Ruck, esp Sandilands development in the ruck. He is turning into a weapon and freeing longmuir for a range of duties such as his work against the Saints in the backline.

The new boys. seems like CC has been specifically trying to address our most glaring weakness; speed in the midfield, with the inclusion of Peake and Crowley. Add in the development of Mundy and Dodd, and we are starting to get a good mix around the ground.

Away games. Not a bad record this year, and now that we are approaching potential finals, that confidence is really exciting.

Seeing CC clearly out-coaching some other coaches. In particular Thomas, Malthouse and Thompson. They were wins that he could take some clear credit for in terms of his coaching startegy.

CC's reaction to the mid-year break where he clearly re-assessed the teams performance and put in place changes which have worked. Brilliant.

Looking forward to next week. A great test. And if we are good enough we are in the finals. And that will be another step forward. If not, then it's been an okay year.

11 wins and 11 losses, which will get worse before the season is over, is not much to crow about.

As I said on another post, if we win Sat'day night we will come 7th, and probably a one-point loss from coming fifth. And then we're a chance against the Kangaroos and Geelong at the 'G.

are we also comparing what teams each coach had from start to finish ? ..... hmm?
Tico, you must remember that Neesham was the one who picked HIS team.Had he not been so my way or the highway then he could have had a better team.
Drum made the mistake of keeping some of Neeshams hacks to see how they performed and suffered accordingly.Had he disposed of the those he disposed of in his second year when he first took over things MAY have been different.Snooze you losesorry Damian. The best part of Drums stint was that he was not prepared to give away early draft choices for ready made players, now we are reaping the benefits of that wisdom.
Connolly may not be everyones cup of tea but lets face it he is doing better than some other coaches in the AFL.

CC also kept and traded for a few more early ones in 2003.

We will reap the benefits of those for many years to come.

We have 5 players still on our list that debuted under Gerard.
5 that debuted under Drummie
1 under Ben Allan
18 under CC

Clement , Holland , Sinclair , Bandy are on other Clubs lists still who debuted under Gerard
Brown , Mcphee are Drummies boys still on other AFL clubs lists.

I want nothing less than to win this Saturday against Port make the finals and win at least one game. If we do get into the finals some of us who have been on and off the bus and are currently on the bus will have some amunition to fight a rear guard action until 06 starts.

If we dont make the finals its going to be a long summer for the CC supporters.

As a result of our ladder position on completion of round 15 we should be set up for some friendly fixtureing in the first half of 06.

I stated my expectations about the team and CC at the start of round 16. He has done enough in the last 6 rounds to get my support. No matter what happens this weekend.

With a squad that has new and talented players pushing into becoming permenant selections next year I think CC's plan will fall into place.

So my cards are on the table. The CC bashers will not get my support.

Should be an interesting summer.

Maybe. He has done enough for mine. The turnaround he has engineered in the second half of the season is a clear indication that he is a learner, and that he can adapt his plan to the situation. It also indicates that there were clear reasons for the teams performance in the first part of the year; injuries; new team structure etc

IF he was given the flick, which he of course isn't going to be, he would be the best available Coach should another team be looking. Think about it.
