Seems odd to me.

Not really, pretty sure we did that ahead of one of the other clubs coaching announcements just a couple years back. Can't remember if it was the Walsh or Richardson appointment where we went public first.

If the AFL side is injury free and goes deep into the AFL finals I reckon it is possible.

Great news! Apart from Surjan he seems the best man for the job.

I'm more optimistic about this appointment than others in recent years. McGregor wasn't quite up to it and Hocking needs a break from Magpie coaching duties to concentrate solely on our AFL squad.

Cornes returns to Port as SANFL coach
GREATER Western Sydney assistant coach Chad Cornes will return to Port Adelaide to replace Garry Hocking as coach of the club's SANFL side.
Hocking is expected to move back into a full-time AFL role alongside Power coach Ken Hinkley.
Cornes became a household name and won the 2004 premiership with the Power before playing the final 16 of his 255 career games at the Giants in 2012.

I'm really happy with the appointment, in part just thinking of what G Cornes thinks of it.
