Just on that Port game. I think our most damagin centre clearance group that day for the majority was Dal, Levi and Cunners. And it worked so wonderfully well. A great balance. We had all with great inside ball winning ability and someone commented that Dal would Levi dishing it out to him. Cunners was just immense with his all round game. The ball was hitting our forwards lace out. And this against Port.It makes you wonder how we knocked over Freo in Perth, Sydney in Sydney, and Port at home. I wonder what those same stats were in those games specifically? It also shows how pants they must've been v Collingwood, GCS and *.
Its basically saying that we are third last in total centre clearances and second last in our ability to generate a score from the centre clearances we have won. Which is fine if you have other ways of generating scores.I've read that post 4 times and still can't make sense of it
OK I was confused by the third sentence but now I realise it is about Essendon. Its basically saying that we are third last in total centre clearances and second last in our ability to generate a score from the centre clearances we have won. Which is fine if you have other ways of generating scores.
movement is too slow and too predictable off from the backline. we've gone back to chip it into the pocket and then belt it up the line from kick ins. this leaves us with roughly 1/3 chance of generating an inside 50. if the opposition dont win this ball there is generally a stoppage caused, where our dismal clearance record ATM sees this ball pumped back into our 50 once again. The other thing that is a worry is the efficiency (or lack thereof) of our ball movement.
We have only won the inside 50 count in 2 games this year (+2 vs WB and +24 vs Bris)
Last year we won this in 13/22 games and went +12 (on avg) in games we won and -7 in games we lost
This year, remarkably we are -2 in games we've won (and this is made prettier by the smashing of Brisbane) and -12 in games we've lost
Yeah, it's only a snap shot of one aspect of the game. It tells us that we don't place great emphasis on clean usage from centre clearances, or in fact winning them.OK I was confused by the third sentence but now I realise it is about Essendon.
I really don't think these stats tell you the story of our season. For me, it still comes down to effort.
I can't get specific centre clearances stats but if you look at the overall clearance stats we have only lost this stat twice (smashed by essendon in Rd 1 when Goldy was injured and beaten comfortably by Collingwood). On the other hand, we are +68 (+13.6 on avg) in contested possessions in games we've won and -114 (-28.5 on avg) in games we've lost! That's a huge swing
Dismal?? We are +22 in clearances for the year. Considering we are -46 for the year in Contested Possession (a lot of which happen around stoppages), that is surprisingly good!movement is too slow and too predictable off from the backline. we've gone back to chip it into the pocket and then belt it up the line from kick ins. this leaves us with roughly 1/3 chance of generating an inside 50. if the opposition dont win this ball there is generally a stoppage caused, where our dismal clearance record ATM sees this ball pumped back into our 50 once again.
Perhaps. To me it says we've been hurt by injuries to Swallow, Ziebell and Wells (aka our 3 best mids from 2013) more than people realiseYeah, it's only a snap shot of one aspect of the game. It tells us that we don't place great emphasis on clean usage from centre clearances, or in fact winning them.
I stand corrected! good on cunners for doing thatDismal?? We are +22 in clearances for the year. Considering we are -46 for the year in Contested Possession (a lot of which happen around stoppages), that is surprisingly good!

And Goldy (but you know, taps are useless and all thatI stand corrected! good on cunners for doing that![]()
)Someones gotta do itAnd Goldy (but you know, taps are useless and all that)
I'd hate to think what our clearance stats would be like if Goldy had missed the first few months as was originally predicted after the rd 1 injurySomeones gotta do it
Perhaps but the only time this year the result of our match hasn't gone to the winner of CP was the Freo game (134-146) so it is a pretty important KPI for usI reckon contested possession in isolation is a misleading stat. Picture two players chasing a loose ball. Our bloke wins it and gives a handball into traffic, where someone fails to pick it up low, and the ball is swept away by the opposition for a clean mark inside 50. Contested possession count in that passage is 1:1.
Around the ground perhaps but I think he's still doing quite well in the ruck and is also tackling very wellI don't think Goldy is in top form either.
