Just changed to Optus, new router etc, now my networkable MFC won't print.

Any ideas why? It won't print from any machine in the house (Can't connect), but it shows up on the hub, and can be deleted and added on my Mac. So it sees it, but can't connect when given a print command.

I've done the usual stuff, made sure the ink and paper is OK etc, as well as tried setting it up as an IP printer but nothing seems to work.

Does changing provider change the IP address? I dunno I'm running out of ideas...

possibly the new router has a different ip address that needs to go in somewhere.

10.10.10.1
10.0.0.138
192.168.0.1

Changing provider doesn't change the internal IP address and the external one is most definetely not static anyway. I will bet my balls that your network is using DHCP (gets its IP address from the router) and the new router is configured for different network than your old router, therfore it is dishing out a different IP Address range. Your MFC probably has a static IP address configured on a different nework range.

On your PC go to start | run | cmd and type ipconfig then see what IP address range the PC is on (which gets it from the dhcp server on the router). Then manually configure your MFC on the same range.

e.g.

If the PC is 192.168.0.2 put your MFC on 192.168.0.40 (I chose a high node number in case you have other devices on the network).

If it is 10.1.1.2 put your MFC on 10.1.1.40 etc.

This is assuming that the diagnosis I have bet my balls on is correct which I think it is.

Thanks for your suggestions. Unfortunately I'm no closer to a solution - the IP addresses are in the same 192.168 range, yet still won't print.

It is possible that the hub is faulty I guess, even though the printer shows up on it.

One suggestion I have had is to connect the printer to the Optus router via USB rather than ethernet cable...maybe the Optus router is configured to handle that better. But wouldn't ya know it...both the printer and the router have female ports and it seems that female-female USB cable doesn't exist!

the printer is on a static IP address?

if not i'd go really high, 192.168.0.254 and set the printer there.

make sure the subnet masks are the same on the printer and the switch.
i can't imagine they're anything other than 255.255.255.0.

run a tracert on the printer's ip address to see if the traffic is going anywhere it shouldn't be going.

turn the printer off and on and check it's retaining it's settings.

check that the ip address range hasn't changes in the third digit.

Thanks everyone, problem solved - you were all pretty right. The static IP on the printer needed a single digit changed - and voila it all worked.

Cheers. :thumbsu:
