I went on up to Preston on Saturday afternoon to take a look at Coburg. The players who stood out for a senior recall were:
Andrew Krakouer who continues to develop as a midfielder as well as being a goal sneak. He got plenty of the ball with superb one-touch handling and also topped it off with 2 goals.
Matthew Rogers did it all very easily, working well around the ground and collected what must have been 30+ touches. A senior player of this standard should be able to do this at the VFL level - that Rogers did do it shows that the attitude is there. This can be contrasted to Clinton King who didn't really appear interested and seemed to struggle.
Adam Houlihan also worked hard and was able to do as he pleased. A player too good for VFL but without the hard-edged atttitude for the AFL.
The fact that Richo only kicked 1 goal does tend to be a bit misleading. While I thought he would tear the game apart at that level, the conditions didn't really suit him. It was very blustery and passes that were put in his direction either flew too far or dropped short depending on the vagaries of the wind. He had 5 set shots on goal with 4 of them being taken wildly by the wind despite starting on target.
While I don't think Marty McGrath is ready for a call up (too skinny), I was amazed at his marking ability. Never mind the massive hangers he's become famous for, a number of times he took strong, one grab marks whilst in the middle of packs. You would expect this from a big player like Richo but not from someone so small. This kid may well be another Greg Beck speculator that turns into gold!
Aaron Fiora is a defintie omission (hamstring) and Richo is a definite inclusion. On form and also considering our future direction, the only other change I would make would be Sziller out for Krakouer.
