It may sound hackneyed, but finals are a new ball game. We still have the bulk of the 2023 premiership side available. We have a fortnight's test (as do all other teams), but I think we are the side that will derive the most benefit.

Cox is tall, yes, but over his career, how has he been with contested marking?

Does he have the ability to hold his ground, or historically, has he been way to easily pushed under the ball?
I would pose the same question about McStay the last two months. I would like people to back up the argument of having McStay over Cox. I have seen one good one, that he can at least kick a goal within 50m range. What else? Or has it come to ‘the better of two evils’. ‘Let’s just keep doing the same thing that doesn’t work’

Just getting a win under the belt will put smiles on faces and ease the pressure around the place.

Honourable losses don’t make you feel good inside, wins do, particularly that it was in a close game.

If we play as crap as yesterday we will lose but I’m building confidence that the win will lift the boys and we know from a week ago that we can match it with the Crows. The week off will help us too.

Btw, I’m not sure why posters are putting Bobby down as an in? He didn’t train at all last week and I’d suggest he is no chance now.

I know you didn't answer the question, but I'm prepared to answer yours.

McStay has the strength to not get pushed under the ball. He's had issues over the past 2 months with not clunking marks but that's 2 months, not long term. He was an integral part in us getting to the GF in 2023 where he was clunking seemingly everything. I think if he can get some confidence back, he can recapture some of that form. The last time Cox was an integral part of our side was 2018.

Timokane
Fly the plane
In Adelaide it will rain
Geelong are a pain
Always a stain
In the lane
Hot like propane
No pain no gain
A loss is All in vain
Don't wane
Don't fain

Good points. I do wonder though as I did specify earlier how we often do not value players that are important to others in the team. Like a Presti 2010 or a Frampton GF that had pretty horrendous stats but obviously important to the team. I know you’re going to say Presti is a backman it’s a lot different but I do wonder if Cox allows players like Elliot and Mihocek to play better games. I am not certain but I do think it’s important to consider esp. when McStay has not been performing for the last two weeks. What’s the point of having strength if it isn’t for the betterment of the team.

I'll clarify though, I'll wish the best for whoever is selected. I'm not the type to deathride a Collingwood player's performance so I can tell everyone I told them so.
Yeah I agree, and initially when I seen McStay’s drop in form I blamed i50 efficiency not him. So I do admit I am a little on the fence here just like to explore ideas and see how we can improve. I don’t think looking at Cox’s stats gives him justice but hey that’s just my opinion

Incorrect.

Cox was being utilised as our No.1 ruck option throughout the 2023 final series.

Go take a look at the stats if you don't believe me.

People calling for Cox to replace McStay has nothing to do with his forward prowess in 2025.

It's because McStay is horribly out of form himself as a forward, looks to be moving and reacting incredibly slow out on the ground (knee?) and is a non factor in the ruck.

Cox being able to provide a much stronger ruck presence is why I mainly wanted him in this week and in particular I was keen to explore if that provided greater scope in how we deployed Cameron.

That's the key to me and I'd rather seek a benefit to the side in one area of the ground than continue the debate of who offers more up forward.

That contest is a nil all draw right now.

As for people continuing to push McStay as an option at CHB can you please point to me the last time he played there full time week on week? It must have been at Brisbane and quite a long time ago.

Personally I find that notion as fanciful as using Mihocek in the role.

Incorrect.

This may be your opinion, but many have suggested Cox will be more useful forward than McStay.

Re: Con in the ruck, how have his performances been since ruck rules have changed? Outbodied in the ruck like in the forwardline l.

Hopefully Howe gets up. We need him to help quell Fogherty, Thilthorpe & Walker. If he’s not able to play, I’d prefer Hoskin-Elliott over Dean or Parker.

McCreery and DeGoey were so important and powerful last night. Hopefully Beau’s foot is OK. If not, bring in Parker and do a re-shuffle if necessary.

Mihochek’s injury was weird. The way he was clutching it, i thought he must have cracked a bone but it didn’t swell up, he kept playing and was able to tackle opponents and high-five teammates. Hopefully OK.

I’m really not sure about McStay v Cox. Mason’s a much better ruckman but his marks and goals per game numbers have fallen off a cliff this season. McStay’s a much more natural footballer but gee he has been invisible for most of the past two months. It’s a tough one. If Mason really dominates in the VFL on Sunday I’d be tempted to make the change but I guess it depends on how they both go at training over next two weeks.

Cox ruck
Cameron helps out the backline

Cmon bobby give us a few more weeks

Beau is one of our most important players imo

And mcstsy...cmon mate LIFT !

Even better then if they're right as we already know he'll be a better ruck option.

Personally I'm settling for the latter as reason enough to go with him ahead of McStay.

Is this an indication of what type of slur we'll hear from the outer during the game?
Or should we just give the Crows supporters in the crowd their rabies booster shot to calm them down a bit.

Clearly this whole Bobby Hill saga is a rouse to unleash him as a secret finals weapon - a late in from outside the emergency list that no one will expect!

Seems we accidentally leaked the launch codes for Houston a week early. I heard his good games were being saved for finals, but he might’ve blown his cover against Melbourne.
