If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Roan is being picked for blocks of games. A more mature player with AFL attributes and great attitude. The ideal would be for him to stay top 23. No VFL means no other from to knock him down.

Feels like its been a while since we had a young debut this early in the season.

Under Fly for sure, I can only think of Nick.

Bucks had a lot of knockers but one thing I can’t cricticise was his belief in young players coming into the best 22 early. He did it a lot.

Steene is now 22, and in his fourth season, but if you're classing him as a "young debut" then Charlie Dean in Opening Round 2024 would be the one before him (from early in the season). He was 22 and in his third year at the club.

Dean's debut was also against GWS - that game didn't go well, and his career didn't turn out to be a successful one, so hopefully things work out better for Oscar!

Nick Daicos in Rd. 1 and Reef McInnes Rd. 3 of 2022 (both were 19) were the ones before Dean (young player making an AFL debut for us early in the season). It's fair to say that since then we haven't given many young players early season debuts under Craig McRae.

he has to get more involved or West will be replacing him in a hurry

personally i would give West 2 games in the VFL to get some form, then in for the Freo game in Adelaide ( would hold off playing him against Brisbane in Brisbane next week )

our key tall forwards need the ball getting delivered in quicker, none of them are currently going to take a pack mark. need to get space on the lead or out the back

We certainly weren’t going to bring both West and Steene in together. Membrey has plenty of runs on the board… Wests time will come pretty soon. The VFL hasn’t even started yet for the Pies.

With Moore and Howe returning that should set up better delivery from the back half and midfield with IQ Houston and Josh freed up to do what they do best rather than play undersized one on one defence.

That will give our forward line a better crack.

We might not have won the thing in 2023 without Dan. But peak Dan was a 7 weak block of 10 possessions and 2 goals a game. To me, if that's his peak, you don't let him go under the peak for very long.

Bobby Hill goes around 10 possessions and under 1.5 goals a game so I think you might need some more context around those stats.

As much as I bag some of our players I hope Oscar does well like all our debutants. It’s always exciting to see new players and it’s exactly what I want to see.

It’s interesting when you hear flys comments about West and Oscar is in exactly the same position yet with the bye and no VFL last week yet he was selected. I don’t like when a coach does this. Just say West is not playing don’t make up an excuse for him then ignore it for another player. Blame the AFL and the ridiculous fixture, omg. Just start at round 1 who gives a crap what the NRL do.

Tbf Oscar has played all the preseason games. Two vfl practice games. West hasn’t played since Ballarat

Oscar comes in as a replacement for either Buller or McStay, who are both underperforming. He can take a contested grab forward of the ball, and will be well-suited by the new ruck rules, where we desperately need to start winning some clearances.

West, I see as a replacement for Membrey at some point in the season. Membrey is 31 and going well below averages at the moment.

What I heard mostly from Fly is that he’s addrsssing a need for a better ruck support for Cameron, especially at the centre bounces.

West obviously not going to fill that hole.

Going to game with daughter and son (his 22nd Birthday), hopefully we get a win. Last time i was at Marvel was a Wallabies v Wales game. Mike Harris kicked the winning penalty kick. Just looked it up, 2012!!
