OK I just got a new comp and it has a GF4 MX and it came with the 52.16 driver installed. BUT this driver causes problems with some games by not show the textures. I downloaded the 45.23 driver to try that and it intsalls BUT the graphics card is still using the 52.16 driver!

SO how can I change it?

P.S. I cant do a rollback since 52.16 was the original driver.

Well done you two, give yourselves a pat on the back!

I was asking the question to see if someone knew of a way WITHOUT having to reinstall or else I wouldn't have bothered asking!

That's a bit harsh - you asked a question and they gave you an answer. Its not like they told you to reinstall the OS or anything.

There isn't a way of doing this. What I would guess is happening when you try to install the older driver is that it is detecting newer versions of the files already in place than the ones you're trying to install and thus using those instead of replacing the files.

The only real solution is to uninstall and reinstall the display driver. In theory you should be able to do this and get the versions of the files you want, although you *may* have to hack around a bit and delete some of the existing files manually or you may continue to have the same problem.

Note that before uninstalling the driver you might want to look at what files it uses so you have some sort of idea what files to delete if you have to do that.

While I do thank Bacon ans Shaitan for their replys, their replys were still just plainly stating the obvious. I knew that I would most likely have to reinstall BUT I was trying to find out another way if possible otherwise (thanks Mr Q for answering the question!), as I said before, I wouldn't have bothered wasting bandwidth here.

Err.. he said practically the exact same thing as I did.

if you want to totally remove an old driver there are tools on the web (you can find them with a search in google) that remove all traces of the driver as some people have problems when they move back to an old driver version with conflicts between older and newer files..

You sound like a very arrogant piece of work. Maybe try posting your qualifications and what you do and dont know, so people dont get shot down in flames, just trying to help.

Shaitan, I never said I wouldn't uninstall. I knew perfectly well I would probably have to. I was just wondering IF it was possible to somehow install the older version driver over the newer one. Thats all!

So thanks to everyone for replying and trying to help except EssJay, no one asked him anyway!

BTW, Des, the question has been answered. Can close the thread now?

Cheers, CJ

You asked me CJ.

Mr Eagle, that was the first thing I tried. It made no difference. Some of the textures still didn't show up.

Thanks anyway.
