AFL Club
Geelong
Question marks were raised in 2011 (by a select few), was not given the 2 contract year he was after so went with the 1 year contract but the start of 2013...he's been typical Chappy at his brilliant best.

2nd half performances have been wonderful, it's not anything new or out of the ordinary either but he deserves all the accolades he receives, such a terrific leader for our new breed coming through and his game today was a major reason why Geelong are currently 2-0 to the start the season :thumbsu:

He was harshly dealt with on a few tackle decisions early on, I think he wasn't sure what he was and wasn't allowed to do without giving away soft frees.
He played much better when deep forward and I think he's of more value there than mid

I certainly had a question mark over him in 2012 - and felt that whilst he still had something to offer, he should never play in the centre on a dry day again.

I was wrong - certainly with the current mix of the side as it stands, we have enough speed through the middle and really need an enforcer from time to time. Let's be honest, first two games - Chappy has been excellent.

Last week and this week it was demonstrated that once Chappy gets "angry" we are a better team. Once he translates that emotion into winning the ball forward and avoids giving away free kicks (many of which both he and I feel are unwarranted!) we look so much stronger.

More angry pills prescribed to Chappy please!

Chappy was immense in the 2nd half today.

It was round 3 last year against the Kangaroos when the knives came out for him, he had a 'mare and his future beyond 2013 was being openly questioned.

A year on and Paul Chapman continues to show what a proud character he is; when the curtain is drawn on his career he will stand among the top dozen or so players to have ever represented Geelong imo.

Third best stats at the club last year.....if that's as bad as it gets where's that 3 year contract!
He warned he'd run his fastest 3km timetrial pre-season, no one was listening.

Ha, well obviously the Malakellis brothers have his measure, but of the *other* players you listed, I'd probably have him above Alastair Lord, Paul Couch, Gary jnr and probably Ian Nankervis too - that is no sleight on that quartet, who were all champions of the club; but I rate Chappys record - over a looong time now, to be the equal or better of those players.

I was actually pondering who had had the better career out of him and Jimmy as I was walking back from watching the game at the pub, and I reckon there's hardly a bee's appendage in it - but remember Chappy was already key member of our side when Jimmy was just establishing himself.

That was a good list btw :)

bearing in mind that I put a premium on players who have contributed to team success (i.e. flags), my all-time Cats team would probably look a lot like this :

B : G. Todd M. Scarlett B. Smith

HB : C. Enright R. Hickey L. Hardiman

C : M. Turner J. Selwood L. Turner

HF : B. Davis F. Flanagan G. Ablett sr.

F : S. Johnson D. Wade P. Chapman

R : G. Farmer G. Hocking G. Ablett jr.

I/C : J. Bartel E. Greeves C. Ling B. Goggin

emerg/honorable mentions/stiff : D. Milburn, I. Nankervis, N. Tresize and about a dozen others

obviously there are players I never even saw with my own two eyes included and not included, but I enjoy reading about the history of the GFC and have garnered a bit of anecdotal knowledge over the years, which leads me to rate certain players higher or lower than others. There's only three players in that 22 without a flag; Gaz snr, Buddha Hocking and Mick Turner - Turner could easily be squeezed out in a re-shuffle by someone like Jack Collins for example. Or Darren Milburn.
It's all pretty subjective, but anyway despite it being a 'big call' I still reckon Chappy can hold his seat at the table with the real heavyweights of the club.

Ok this is what they do.
Chappy starts in the forwardline for the first 40 mins of the game, then when the game slows down a bit put him in the middle (rotating both throughout the game though).
Its logical surely?!??

Chap certainly got the sorter end of some whistles yesterday. They were there by the letter of the law but the same call was not made in the second 1/2 so some consistency would be nice.

He certainly had a long hard look at half time as he was a different Chappy later on. Im fine with him in bursts in the guts, and his time up forward one out is as good as any. Every small defender out there sphincters up a little seeing him come to them in the forward line.

The mix is working well and on this form will carry more than this year...(long way to go however)

Go Catters

like your team and the only change would be. Bartel starting for Leo turner and maybe dasher in the backline (absolute champion player).

superb team

oh and that TOC is surely close to the best of all AFL clubs...

Right.
We had AMAZING players throughout our history, shame that some werent as successful as they should have been...
How would guys like Hocking, Hinkley, Brownless, Stoneham etc etc etc be judged now if that had snared a flag or 2....

never seen a player as hard as buddha. he dealt out punishment like no other midfielder in his day, opposition players genuinely feared buddha.
4AA 4 BFs 4 time top 3 brownlow. Hird, Buckley et al aint in this guys league period.

Agree 100% but I reckon not having "Premiership Player" next to his name actually hurts his reputation.
