Anyone into Cheap Trick here?

or has got their new album Rockford which is apparentley rated the best since Dream Police.

I am one of those who have a "Unhealthy fixation on Cheap Trick" as described by Melbourne Age EG journo when the Posies where here in 1996. ( it is nice how some music journos never mention their names as if they feel threatened, well I wouldnt punch a man with glasses like Anthony O'Grady but I would push him into a urinal if I had the chance)

Anyway my fave Cheap Trick albums are
Cheap Trick 77
Heaven Tonight 78
Sex america Cheap trick disfc one
In Color
Dream Police
Budokan
and Cheap Trick 97
They have some fantastic stuff and some absolute crap eg No Mercy, The Flame,

Saw them at The Palace in 1996 BRILLIANT only hope that Rockford gets a aussie release so they tour here again

Wellthetalkischeapandthoserumoursaintnice!

There a band I've always liked in the sense that I loved the singles (regardless of whether people dislike it - The Flame is in my Top 5 songs of all time) but I've only really started investigating them properly recently.

I'm very glad I did.

Were working with the late John Lennon in the late 70's and 1980. They worked on the song "Im Loosing You" the alternative version of that one features their crunching guitar. Must have been great for the boys to get to work with John. A really great band, their earlier stuff is the best

Surrender is one of the finest moments in pop culture - bout time they had a revival. Good that they use them as the theme song for "That 70s show"

The debut self-titled album get's my vote by a long way. Don't think they ever scaled those heights again (not on a complete studio album). Your right goatsby "The Flame" was an absolute crock.

Red Kross were another band with a rather huge Cheap Trick fixation.

Agreed. And Cheap Trick's best (followed closely by "I want you to want me").
I'll pass on them after that.

I want you to want me is so infectious and compelling it is almost like it was made by a pop music supercomputer!

The albums are 90% crap = particularly the ballads

Their early studio stuff was terrific,
with heavy Beatle influences, (George Martin produced 'All shook up')
but preferred their live stuff.

Cheap Trick at Budokan was like currency when i was a kid.
Found all the Parts has some leftover live stuff on it as well.

Bun E. Carlos whacking away to Rick Neilsen wailing
still gets a run at 11.30 on a Friday night.

Didn't like much of the later stuff when they got ballad fever.

amazing how many great 70's rock acts tried hitting the ballad jackpot in the 80's and onwards. Aerosmith, these guys, etc..
