If there's a thread for John Candy well in sam hell there should be one for Chevy Chase.

Whether its,

Ty Webb from Caddyshack.

or

Clark Griswold from Vacation.

or

Emmett Fitz-Hume from Spies Like Us.

Chevy Chase has been making us laugh for a long time*

So post your favourite Chevy Chase memories here.

*Well he's made me laugh for a long time.

One of the greatest comedy scenes of all time.

44

Chevy Chase, Bill Murray and John Belushi all did coke which is why they were so funny.

Dan Akroyd didn't do coke and he made Doctor Detroit, go figure.

The history of the cannonball scene in Caddyshack

Ramis realised he had no scenes with Bill and Chevy so the decided to film one, no script just the setup and then the two guys just bounced off each other

I think most of Rodney Dangerfield's scenes in that film were ad-libbed too, it was basically just him bringing his usual comedy shtick that he did in the clubs.

Caddyshack is my favourite Chevy Chase film, I've watched it countless times and still get plenty of laughs out of it each time, although it's not solely a Chevy Chase vehicle with Bill Murray and Rodney Dangerfield playing an equal part in bringing the laughs.

National Lampoon's Vacation is my second favourite and Clark Griswald is his best character, Christmas Vacation is very good too but European Vacation was a bit of a let down, the lack of Cousin Eddie played by Randy Quaid didn't help it, some of the funniest scenes in the other two Vacation films involved him.

Some great movies in the '80s, then nothing for 30 years. Last great film was probably Three Amigoes in '86. Coke is a helluva drug.

Probably had a lot to do with him getting too old to play those goofball comedy roles and unlike Bill Murray he couldn't reinvent himself as an older actor.

And Johnny Depp too, albeit a different actor. Stopped doing R when he decided he wanted to do movies that his kids could watch.

I reckon even his kids would be sick of watching his Pirates of the Caribbean movies and his remake of Willy Wonka was atrocious.

I'm one of few who prefer the remake.
