Should do what Australia did in 2005, and just qualify for the World Cup.. Once that happens, interest in the sport and spending skyrocket. Now it's 10 years later and the quality of national football has steadily increased as well as youth involved in the sport here. China seem intend on just splashing money on international talent to boost their local league, whilst their development of local players goes nowhere. 1 world cup appearance in their entire history is pretty dire, and looks like that ll continue for 2018, the way the national team is preforming.

They are making huge changes to the sport at grassroots level. High priced imports are getting all the publicity but it really is a minor part of the development plans.

That's all well and good but that won't change centuries of Chinese culture. The best they can hope for is to be competitive with the likes of Australia, Japan & Sth Korea.

Also if President Xi goes goodbye football funding.

Would be nice if they put all this money into getting their population over the poverty line instead of football.

They've got a funny definition of communism over there. Make huge profits off low paid workers in factories while the rich busines man live like fat cats and spunk their money on real estate overseas.

That's pretty much what happened with communism everywhere minus the real estate.

Unfortunately would never happen, 3000 years of China history is basically just treating 90% of the population like s**t then slaughter them when they revolt. Which is the CCP's governing policy

Actually really sad with the way they've been splashing massive money on duds when that money genuinely could go somewhere in a developing country where people can actually have a proper life

Culture is an evolving thing. Put 5 a side pitches in every new residential developmemt, build new pitches and form amateur leagues, bring football into the school curriculum.

Of course it will change culture over time.

A new president may have different ideas, but you may as well not do anything if you're worried about your successor winding back the clock.

Nobody lives in the new residential developments.

There is an issue of many apartments and houses being built but no one are actually buying them in some areas of China, but probably more to do with the frightening rate in which they're building them

But also the truth that loads of people actually can't afford them, only the better off who can buy multiple of them and cash in, but there might be a one apartment policy that prevents them from buying more in some areas

Besides, the smart ones get the heck outta China and buy overseas properties

There's about 60 million empty apartments in China. Going back maybe 10 years ago they were being sold with the promise that you would double your investment in 5 years. As cooldude said heaps were built.

But in a population of a billion and a half 60 million is a number really that should only worry the people that invested.

They were being built up until a couple of years ago. The new president changed policy so that you could only have 1 investment property. That was grandfathered tho.

Ghost cities everywhere and out of a billion and a half people there is only about 1% that aren't below the poverty line.

I pay my staff pretty well actually. i house them, feed them. they're happy.

i also travel back to my ancestors village a few times a year. people are happy there.

So Lionel Messi, Hebei fortune, 80 million pound a year offer. Discuss.

At 100 million euro / year after tax, anything is attainable.

Apparently Chinese clubs are trying to get Oscar from Chelsea.
And inquired about Alexis Sanchez as well on more money than he's on at Arsenal.
