Choco takes aim at Crows

Port Adelaide coach Mark Williams has had a dig at local rival Adelaide and its reporting of a million-dollar profit again this year.

Asked after training on Wednesday how he reacted to 'the Crows being labelled the No. 1 team in town now', Williams said: "Well, they certainly are as far as making money. They just have to turn up - it's like selling Coke, I'd reckon. They make a million dollars every year.

"For us, we have to work hard from our marketing department, our sponsorship department - everyone has to work. And they really achieve what they get. It's a difficult task for us. It filters all the way down through the football department.

"Obviously we don't have the money that the Crows have to just go and spend - a shotgun approach on anything that they think might be good. We have to kind of pick the eyes out of it and that's why we sent those people (assistant coach Phil Walsh and fitness coach Darren Burgess) overseas to be able to do that and come back with the best stuff.

"We feel we've done a fine job over the last years and we're very keen to be cutting edge, we're very keen to stay ahead of the field and we've got a few things up our sleeve that we're looking forward to implement into what we do both on the field and off the field that will make us better than what we were."

Port last week announced a consolidated loss of $514,723 for the year before a $220,000 sub-licence payment to the SANFL.

Adelaide this week announced an operating surplus of $1,068,723 for 2005 after paying the SANFL $450,000 as part of the club's sub-licence agreement.

Williams said he had noted that 'a lot of teams are picking up on what we've done over the last few years'.

"We've certainly selected our leaders on the players' voting and there's been lots of that going on," he said. "Teams like Sydney and St Kilda are having a rotation of their captaincy … there's a whole variety of different ways of doing it these days.

"We feel like we're in the forefront of that and with a lot of things that have been happening. When you are at the top of the tree, a lot of people copy a lot of things you've done.

"We feel like we have to take a march ahead again. Our assistant coach Phil Walsh went to America and spent time with the New York Giants and a few other gridiron teams, plus ice hockey and college basketball.

"And our fitness man, Darren Burgess, went to England and spent time with West Ham, Liverpool and Fulham. And we've also had (development coach) Brenton Sanderson just come back from three weeks in America.

"So we've had some great input from variety of preparation to video analysis to just skill development and the leadership programs they do. We're getting that altogether. We're getting some great things out of it and we want to make sure we're providing the players with the best opportunities and our club with the best resources to make sure we stay at the top of the tree."
Good to see choco so concerned and jealous about our club.

FFS cry me a river, the strategies the Adelaide Crows put in place to gain that strategic advantage in the South Australian AFL market are just as vital and critical to the off field success as the ones that Port Power do.

Andrew Crowell and the “Crows in Schools” program is a great way of introducing the brand (Adelaide Crows) to young kids. Anyone would be thinking the Crows brain wash kids into disliking the power, sorry but Choco you do that all by yourself

What does it cost for 40 players and a few coaches to fly to the Gold Coast and have accommodation for a week? I guess money isn’t so hard to get your hands on when you’re talking about the important things.

If money was so scares then maybe you should have taken your team to Victor harbour

Just not a good enough job to make a profit or keep a competitive side on the field.

Look out the Port Power are going to implement a social security membership payment plan.

Gas, electricity and a Port Power member ship, only $40 per fortnight taken out of your dole and you can supporter the Power boys

Wow! What a short memory.

Oh and by the way, yep, Choco sounds like a pillock in this article. It's amazing what becomes a story in the off-season though.

He sounds like an envious little boy who has just been told his friend from down the road has got a new PSP and all that he is getting is an Atari.

Its not fair mum they have all the nice stuff and we only have this used crap that no one likes. :D

Sooky, Sooky La, La Choco

*LOL*

Choco you tosser. If I had a dollar for every cheap shot you had at the Crows ...

This was the best line -

"For us, we have to work hard from our marketing department, our sponsorship department - everyone has to work. And they really achieve what they get. It's a difficult task for us. It filters all the way down through the football department."

What are you implying here Choco ? Absolute d|ckhead.

Or is this whole thread just to bait my comrades? :)

I found that confusing. If everyone is working hard and they have to "pick the eyes" out of every decision that is made - why the hell did they employ Mickan, McGuinness and Rhode. Maybe you're not working hard enough Chocco.

Nothing article really.

well whats the fine job your he speaks about?

Mad Dog took you to task over your grammar earlier, so I'll refrain here. All I will say is that thankfully I think that I get the gist of your question.

To answer you, I think that the 'fine job' to which Choco referred may well be our on-field performance from 2001 to 2004 (or even 2005 if you are prepared to settle for that). In that respect, and in respect of the facilities provided at Alberton, I think that most objective persons would see that as a 'fine job'.

You really are struggling for an argument if this is the best that you can do.

The Port Adelaide inferiority complex continues

I wonder how much Chocko gets paid compared to Neil Craig? Then we would see how hard Port have to work to keep finances in check

A bit of p enis envy from Choco. "They've got a big one and I have to work hard to get one the same size"
Sorry mate, working it hard does'nt make it get any bigger.

Poor, Choco, no longer king of the playpen and can't help himself.

By the way - lets look at the results for 2001-2005 (after major round, after all thats what matters) -

2001 Crows 8th Power 5th
2002 4th 3rd
2003 6th 4th
2004 12th 1st
2005 4th 6th

Source : AFL Record

Only huge difference is 2004, which further highlights the sad underachievement of the boys from Alberton for those 5 years. Yes, a fine job.

Perhaps he should have visited the most successful NFL franchise in recent times - the New England Patriots rather than those hacks from New York.
