Must bring in chris bryan this week.If richards plays Seaby will kill him and won't allow josh to float forward.Bryan is at least a bullocking ruckman and a good long kick who can fill the hole down forward or down back.
Malty bring in Bryan..richards won't do the job in the ruck...he is too soft, should have traded Richards to the blues for bryan and kept cam cloke. The combination of cloke and bryan with josh would have been a formidable combination your thoughts?

I dont think a combination of Josh, C. Cloke and C. Bryan is even remotely formidable.....maybe in a Williamstown guernsey but not in black and white.

In fact, I think that would be one of the worst ruck units in the AFL.

I rate Josh highly as a follower.....the others played VFL last year with mixed results......its not exactly Cox/Seaby, Clarke/Koschitzski/Gardner/Blake, Jolly/Everitt etc

Josh is awesome around the ground and at the fall of the ball. In fact, i have to say that while Medhurst plays tall with his good overhead marking, Josh plays small. Having said that, i still feel Richards, given a clean run of fitness and matches, is our best ruck / tap exponent. Bryan can come in when Richards / Josh go down with injury. Shouldn't be to long away... :(

I'd give Richards another 2-4 weeks. We simply need Richards to stand up this year as he's our only geniune tap ruckman.
Yes but the fact we need won’t make it happen. It didn’t any other year.
We need to give him every opportunity to gain match fitness and confidence.
Wouldn’t he do that better in a lower grade comp rather than against the AA ruckman?
Bryan has to force his way into the team, not be given it by default.
Equally Richards has to keep his spot on merit not by default.

This is the sad situation we have list managed ourselves into. I'd go with Bryan if for no other reason that it is a change from something that didn't work to something that might or might not. I only hope we don't go with both because that will be a case of unnecessarily penalising the chances of winning for poor decision making in the past. You'd only play both because you have no confidence in either and meanwhile you take out a runner on a big fast track against the premier midfield in the comp.

I agree. I personally can't see much in Guy and I'm disappointed in the fact if he gets beaten in the ruck he can't really be played anywhere else. But I am more than happy to be proved wrong. He's up and about so needs every chance to repay the faith the coaching staff have seen in him and the collingwood punters are hoping for. This weekend I expect Josh to be playing more onball anyway so the real acid test for Guy is when we play Richmond who seem to be very low on rucks at the moment.

c'mon Guy! We need you to step up.

At Carlton, Bryan never forced his way into the senior side. He got his games because we needed to try something new or we had an injury. His debut was very good but he didn't demand inclusion based on VFL form. He is one of those players that can rise on occasion at the top level without weight of numbers at the lower level. Not a lot to inspire confidence though. Let's hope a change of environment and a last chance scenario gives him a lift like it has for Cam Cloke.

Cloke got 6 possessions last week & Richards got 7. We are simply not happy with Richards because that effort last week was carlton like!

Cam played on polak & pattison & got 6 possesions. You may call that a good game at carlton but we dont except rubbish like that.

When Cam actually plays against a ruckman, you will see his true colours!

Okay, I was actually referring to Bryan not being a player that pushes for selection. He is usually selected out of desperation but is able to step up from a less than impressive preparation on occasion.

Since you want to talk about Cloke based on me suggesting he had lifted, I will just remind you that possessions are not the be all and end all for a ruckman. Cloke has most definitely lifted in the preseason games and again last week, did his job well enough to claim Ackland's starting spot (on paper at least). Whether he is crap the rest of the season or not, doesn't take away the fact that he has been better than we thought in the early going. His ruck combo with Stevens has been very impressive so far and his ability to do the one percenters that do not earn stats due to increased mobility, has also been noticed.

Let's stick to what is written rather than assume something else.

Cheers

Bryan played pretty well on the weekend for Willi, but is being given more time to prove himself after returning from injury.

Also, Malthouse has a tendency to give blokes ample time to prove themselves in the ones and is doing same for Richards. Sometimes this backfires with fans ripping their hair out ala Andy Williams of 2005, but sometimes the blokes get the act together.

If Bryan can play some more good games, he will be pressing for selection.
