inspirational

Put his body and health on the line for his teammates and the jumper we all love. Weve all been jumping on board saying hes improving each week, yesterday he arrived in my book. If that doesnt inspire his teammates nothing will.

onya hydie!

thought his courage deserved a thread of its own

Sickening collision, hope he's alright. I was 20m from the incident, and man you could hear it.

The hit each other soo had. Deadset could have died from head clashes thats hard.

Anyone else grown abit of respect for Hyde?

hydie knows nothing less than 100%.

do you think he will get up for next week?
if not, it will open the door for tambling on a wing.

from hearing terry in his press conference i would think not. he said players who are concussed never play well next week hinting to me that he'll get a break

Love Hydey, probably the few on our list who gives it his all.
Tough kid too, that was probably the worst head collision I have seen in my time of footy. Lets not kid ourselves, he would need to be an exeptionally quick healer to play this weekend, I would rather him have a rest, this leaves an open window for a kid to come in a cement their position in the team.

I can tell you I was personaly worried sick for both lads, without either flinching for a few minutes , I really feared...thankfully both are ok....and on Hydey...no surprise it was him , he never has his mind focussed on anything but getting the pill....no doubt he will be in leadership group one day...if not capt...then VC

Hyde, Maguire on road to recovery

Richmond midfielder Chris Hyde and St Kilda defender Matt Maguire are both on the road to recovery after their sickening head clash at Telstra Dome on Sunday night.

The pair was knocked unconscious in the final term of the Saints' big win and play was held up for more than five minutes as both were taken from the field on a stretcher.

The incident was so serious that Richmond coach Terry Wallace likened the collision after the game to that of a car wreck.

"It was as bad as I've ever seen," Wallace said.

Both were immediately rushed to hospital but Maguire has already been released and was able to take part in St Kilda's recovery session at Moorabbin on Monday morning.

The Saints will monitor him closely during the week but are hoping he will be fit to play against Collingwood at the MCG next Sunday.

Hyde is more seriously injured and remains in hospital, where he could stay for another 24 hours.

However Richmond football manager Paul Armstrong assured supporters on Monday that the much-improved midfielder was okay.

"He obviously doesn't remember the incident but he remembers before the game and remembers being in the rooms after the game," Armstrong said.

"We are hopeful he will get out of hospital today (Monday) but it will depend on what the neurosurgeon says."

Armstrong said while Hyde was only suffering from concussion, given the severity of the clash it might be a bit much to expect to him to be ready to play against reigning premiers Port Adelaide next Sunday.

"He will more than likely miss this week's game at this stage," Armstrong said.

However the Tigers are hoping to regain skipper Kane Johnson, who has missed the past three weeks with heel soreness, for the clash against Port while No.4 draft pick Richard Tambling will be in line to make his AFL debut depending on how he performs in the VFL for Coburg on Anzac Day in his return from a back injury.

hyde will be a big loss for the port match. Hopefully he makes a great recovery and gets to play.
I`m a hell of a lot more concerned about the boys well being .... rather than worrying about whether he will get up next week .

Sometimes a little perspective is needed

Tell you one thing though , he has just become TW`s poster boy for putting it on the line for your jumper and team-mates

I saw it on replay today for the first time, and it truly sickened me. Nothing has really done that to me, that I have seen on the footy field.

Courage shown by both boys there and it's good to see Maguire up and about. Hopefully Hyde pulls up well, even if he can't play this weekend. Was a horrible sight.

All sources I have seen are reporting he is OK but he may have bruised the brain which I think is the actual meaning of concussion, although we have come to think of it being something less. That will be at least 2 weeks I think. Isnt 1 week mandatory for consucssion with the medicos anyhow?

After that display of just down and out courage I think we should keep guernsey number 30 free for him as it was Bourkesque

Just heard on the radio he has a hair line fracture of the skull, will be out for 2-3, and will play in a head guard on his return.

thats horrible news turtle.

I cant help but wonder how Hyde will go when he returns, without a doubt it will have to effect his thought of mind next time he competes for a contested possession.

Poor bugger.
