I would call Mitchell or Franklin fantastic users of the ball. Nor Osbourne or Sewell.

But they are all not butchers of the ball. I reckon we dont have to recruit someone with fantastic ball skills...as long as they are not horrible.


I'd much prefer someone who puts their head over it, wins the ball and doesnt have a high clanger count than another soft outside runner who can kick a goal from 60, but doesnt get it enough and has no defensive pressure.

come one now.. this guys foot and hand skills are as good as any.. please do not ever put him in a list like that again..

and on the topic, hawthorns most skillfull players are usually in the back half, they hit targets forward of centre from their defensive 50 so often, its all those bloody lefties - ellis, hodge, guerra, young, dew! these blokes dont cough it up ever!..

compare our best users in the back half - shaw, lockyer ?? who else

The more I think about it the more I feel that the club would trade him if he gets us a "gun" midfielder.

Two reasons.

1. Didak is an awesome kick but is not a true midfielder. He can play wing but not centre. We need depth in the centre of the park.

2. He is a gun HFF. But we have Davis, Medders, Tarks, Thomas, Wellingham; plus Rocca, Cloke, Dawes, Reed, Rusling as talls and McCaffer to come in the next few years.

With all of our talls that are/will be guns I would rather have a midfield that will deliver it to them on a silver platter then an abundance of small forwards that have to run back to the flanks to get the ball.

Proof: The ammount of games Fevola won off his own boot for Carlton because he was able to take marks inside 50 from deliveries that were lace out from his Midfielders.

Statistics show that if you can take 8 marks inside your 50 every quarter and kick goals from 6 of them you will win most if not all of your games. And the best part, you do not give the ball to the opposition from a goal, it goes in the middle where your midfielders will win most 50/50 contest.

Now if only Fraser can stay fit and add some muscle.
