Hi Guys,

Some of you may have noticed that Chris Oliver has been training with us. Any info on him would be appreciated?

Does he have some talent or is he just a complete dud?

Cheers.

Underheight ruckman with average skills, average marking ability. Decent leap. No bulk. Not an AFL footballer.

Thanks mate.

Not an AFL footballer means he'll probably end up on our list.

Haha!

You should try Jordan Barham or Ben Schwarze. They can play.

I'd expect Braham or Benny Schwarze to make it onto an AFL list before Chris Oliver, unfortunately for him.
The fact that St Kilda, with our limited ruck options let a supposed ruckman go, I think thats indicative of his expectations for an AFL career.

Exactly. I think the guy's got some talent, but for some reason he has never been able to take the step up from VFL level. He had his oppurtunity this year due to the sacking of Capuano and the injuries to Knobel and Brooks, yet undersized players such as Maguire and Blake were preferred as ruck options. If he couldn't get a game in the ruck this year with us, then I doubt he has any future at AFL level unless he makes a big turn around.

I had high hopes for him but he not only failed to step us this season but he took two or three steps backwards.

I just don't think he's good enough (or big enough) but if another club took a punt on him and he came good then I wouldn't be too disappointed.

Seems more suited to a key position. He isn't big or strong enough to ruck in the AFL.

i just don't rate him sorry milne, i just think you have better prospects, should maybe look for a rookie ruck in the draft and throw him straight in ala josh fraser. The developement would have to be quicker than oliver and brooks at the moment.
The longer you take to get a bonafide ruck the worse it is for kosi and reiwoldt cos they can't break games open for you playing in the ruck. The need to be the rocks, CHB and CHF.

Hey simmo whats happenin. Yeah Oliver is a dead set dud. Couldn't get a game in the ruck last season for the Saints so I'd reckon he'd be flat out getting a game in the ruck for the Merbein seconds. If we play Kosi, or Roo in the ruck then we can't be too serious about winnin flags. Kosi should be CHF and Roo on the wing just floating around dominating games. Penny and Maguire will hold down CHB. Then we will just go about whippin the Roos arse!! It's about time you blokes had a bad trot!! Anyway aslong as we whip the Pies!!!:D
