Whilst I agree Thornton now has limited appeal to Hawthorn, he is still a comfortably better footballer than Murphy, and at this stage has Schoenmakers covered...don't know for how long though.

If that is true then why is Thornton in the Ants when Schoenmakers is getting a game in a better side than ours. Maybe we could trade Thornton to them for Suckling who can't get a game but looks a likely type?

No doubt they aren't going to pay as much as they once would for him. But theres no point having him sit in the VFL if he truly is our 5th choice tall defender. Use him to trade up a few of our draft picks and give us more to work with either in the draft or trading with other clubs

Damian Barrett reported on TFS that it would be Tarrant's last season at Fremantle and then will return home to Melbourne. He will be 30 in 2011 and Collingwood would be his likely choice if he decides to play on. He has had a very good season thus far and is a very important player in Fremantle's defence. Should the CFC look to recruit him or stick to developing key backs like Austin and White?

Discuss.

Austin was recruited in 2006. He will be in his fifth year of football next year. If we aren't going to show faith in him by this stage, when will we? Recruiting 30 year olds was a policy of the past, it should not be a policy for the future. We need to show faith in our recruits and hope that they have the ability to take us forward. If Tarrant worked out, it would be for 1-2 seasons at best, and then we'd be back to square one.

I'm siding with The General on this. If we can get him for a 2nd round pick or a Browne/Anderson type then I'm all for it.

Freo would want a 1st round pick though...

When was the last time anyone gave up a first round pick on a player > 30yo?

If you want a comparison, I would have thought that Bradshaw (PSD) and Hall - who was a FAR more credentialed player, albeit, with a few issues - would be the most likely comparison. I would have thought that if he wants to go, a third round pick would probably do it.

First round picks this year will be lower because of the GC. Even though he is 30 he wouldn't be far off the AA side and still has 3-4 years left IMO.

Throw Visy Park, the new Training Facilities and Lygon Street at Patrick Dangerfield - still hasn't signed at Adelaide ??

Not for Gibbs but yes go for him, I hear Essendon are after him big time, why would he go there? His kicking can improve, look at the Riewoldts.

He;s a gun, go for him :footy:
