I don't. Big brother is quite keen to set his home alight with christmas lightings as soon as possible. I'm sure he has the bills to throw us a spectacle.

I've seen quite a number of sensational christmas lightings over the past few years, most of them during my time in Japan.

One of my favourites was this one in Narre Warren where tri-coloured lightings would spark in a very unusual, yet fantastic "fireworks" fashion; even has lights running on the front lawn and there would be very soft "jingle bells" or "santa claus is coming to town" - soft enough for the neighbours to tolerate throughout the night.

When I was a kid in melbourne, the thing to do at Xmas was drive around the roads in Ivanhoe & Kew that were along the Yarra, the houses all had Xmas lights, so you had all the poor people, driving around the rich areas looking at the lights they couldn't afford, but this was in the 60's & there was no competition or reimbursement for the cost these people went through.

Have always wondered ever since why they did it? Did they do it to give pleasure to the have nots, or were they flashing their wealth in peoples faces, maybe they were competing with their wealthy neighbours, trying to out do them.

No doesn't interest me these days, I just have my own little tree lit up in my front window for passers by. :D

I've seen a few photo's of that, looks impressive. I've seen the whole street that do them in Connolly or Clarkson I think it was, looked awesome.

Was that the one off hodges drive?

There is one there that is awesome, they even have a RSPCA donation thing there.

It would be quite the ******** to live in one of the streets that attracts and endless stream of visitors. But I don't so I don't really care.

There was (and still probably is) a street out in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne (cant remember exactly) that I went to a few years ago and nearly every house had heaps of lights, one large square-ish house was covered entirely by fairy lights. But there were a few houses with little or no lights and whenever anyone walked passed they bagged these houses when really, the people bagging them probably didnt have any lights at all at their place its just that those houses looked so pathetic compared to the houses where the people go WAY over the top. Theres also a house on High St Rd in Glen Waverley (near The Glen) that literally glows for miles it has so many lights, anyone who lives nearby should go and have a look coz its crazy.

I don't have them at my house but I love them. The only tradition my family has is "the Christmas Eve Drive" where we drive around the city looking at all the lights. It's been my favourite night of the year since childhood.

Yeah I think that's the one.

And I remember now I have seen the one in Dianella. Seeing the whole street in Connolly though probably looks better.

I think they're nice as a novelty, we live in a gorgeous little double-fronted terrace house and have thought of decorating it, but in the end it's cheaper and much more fun to look at what others do to their houses. :D

Yeah, the street south of the river you're thinking of is Consulate court in Thornlie. (I used to live around the corner).

nawww that's cute!!! ;)

I put up my Christmas lights on my balcony railing last night :D

.....now all of the traffic coming off Citylink can see these flashing lights out of the corner of their eye. I wonder how many accidents I cause between now and Christmas :p

I think the lights are beautiful. There's nothing better then going for a drive and seeing all these houses trying to spread the Christmas spirit. For all those in Adelaide; Lobethal is always a great drive near Christmas time. :)
