But you can call it Alpha Centauri II.

Said to be coming in the 'third quarter' of 2014.

It's being worked on by many of the devs that worked on Alpha Centauri.

Will no doubt be playing this...Although the price is a bit steep for what looks like a reskin of Civ 5...I assume there is more to it?
Agree with you on that point, it was cheaper on Steam originally but they hiked it back up possibly at the request of retailers.

(*Long may your wiggling avatars reign btw :drunk:)

My wiggling Avatars shall never be stopped!

Im sure Steam will have another Super Ultra Mega Kapow Sale shortly and this game will be $20. Until then, I am busy with LoL and probably Borderlands.

Without a doubt there will be a 50 or 75% off sale at some point. That how i picked up all the DLC packs for Civ V so it set me back bugger all.

I might just wait for the inevitable Game of the Year Edition with all the DLC. Won't take that long really. I'm hearing a lot of people complain that it's pretty much exactly like Civ V, even dumbed down a little.

I've done a couple of full play throughs and would say that's pretty fair. They did some things very right but also missed out on a few really essential things. I don't think it stands up against Civ V with all it's addons and extras, and it's definitely not an Alpha Centauri sequel. It's pretty great though, I'm enjoying the hell out of it.

That's what I'm hearing a lot of, it's a good game but there are a number of missed opportunities. I love the series, but this time I'm not feeling compelled to grab it straight away. I'm still getting mileage out of Civ V so I'll just wait and see. I reckon it won't be too long til someone makes a Beyond Earth style mod for Civ V either.

If anybody is interested, and hasn't tired this game like myself, Steam is offering it free for this weekend (16-18/1/2015). I'm excited, it's a great way to try out a game to see if you dig it.

Thanks for the heads up. Been wanting to try it and almost grabbed it at Xmas. I make the mistake of reading the discussion forums on steam too much which always make out every game to be a crap.

I'm in about the first 2 hours and I'm enjoying it. Similar to Civ V but different enough for now. The new tech tree and the affinity stuff is interesting. Will push the limits of this over the weekend, wanna get as much mileage as I can, but so far would probably buy after a decent price drop.

The price is still my issue. It has a bit of a sale at the moment but I'm not going to give it some serious play time for at least the next few weeks. But I've just finished downloading it so that may change. Is it too much like Civ V though? That has been the major criticism that has been putting me off. I always make my civilisation a fascist autocracy but usually get penalised for it by end game. But for now look forward to creating my space nazis.
