In the Age this morning there is talk of the pies going over a physical with Clark Keating...

Last time they did this, was with Blake and they selecting him in the pre-season draft problem is St Kilda have a pick before us and they are also interested. If it adds a few more years to Josh's career i would give him a go, he just turned 30.

The numbers say we won't use the PSD unless someone else gets the chop. If the thread about Walker is correct then you may be right otherwise I doubt it. I'd swap Walker for Keating.

As it stands, we could use pick 63 in the draft to get Keating, and I'd be happy with that, (as long as we get a young ruck with an earlier pick also.) But if the Walker story is true then we would have pick76/psd10 as well, and I'd be even happier to get him at 76. Certainly better than Walker.

It says Intrested In Him not that we are getting him!

Are you sure about that?

No, I'm not. Your knowledge on these things would be far better than mine. You are great and know everything that is going on. I think you must know there is a rule that says if another club talkes him, we will still be able to get him, or else you wouldn't have asked me. I think.

As stated previously (and I'll explain clearly for the unintelligent), we may not get Keating and need to consider plan B, C and D, because we only have two ruckmen, one of whom is never fit and the other who is not really a ruckman and may be needed forward in place of Tarrant.

So I ask again, what happens if we miss out on Keating? Surely we cant rely on an 18 year old?

It was mildly funny the first time

Shouldve quit while you were ahead

Keating deserves a go. Plus with the great training regimen of Collingwood and state of the art facilities, and the bonus of playing lots of MCG games, Keating will thrive.

Its not so much a matter of whether he deserves a go, its more what other choice do we have. But if somebody snaps him up before us, we'll be really thin on the ground for rucks.

We have been thin on the ground for rucks for a very long time. If we don't take an experienced player in any of the drafts and if Walker has gone we will be down to Fraser who is average as a tap ruckman, Richards who isn't as good as Fraser and very injury prone and undersized makeshift options. In terms of the undersized makeshift options they probably won’t perform any worse than Fanning, Hall or Walker and possibly Cameron Cloke would have, although I would dispute that re Cloke.

The problem is we will go into a season with Fraser as the only remotely viable option and the probability that he will have a very heavy load with little chance of relief. After 22 games we'd head into September, if we got that far, knowing Fraser will be all but run ragged. I don't really have much issue with losing the ruck options we have lost (as I said I would have kept Cameron) but the recurring theme of underpowered rucks and the apparent lack of respect for the rile from the coach is pretty poor IMO.

If we make excuses about not have options to shore up the ruck now I will scream. The fact is we are now paying for the sins of the past and it is all our own fault. We are not very good at accepting that fact though.

Be under no illusion, Shane Wakelin is now our fourth ruck option behind Fraser Richards and T Cloke. Then somebody like Presti, or undersized youngsters like John Anthony or Shannon Cox, assuming Rocca cant do it any more.

Our options are far worse than when we had Fanning Hall, Walker, Cam and Jason Cloke.

We must recruit one experienced ruck and draft two others.

I can't believe I would agree with a Brisbane Lion supporter, you're right - he won 2 premiership medallions on the MCG, he's had past success on the ground where Collingwood play 15 games next season. Surely this amounts to something that is only good for the Club.

Keating may be past his best, but the question's been over his fitness, not his effectiveness.

We have Charman and Wood, and the club probably decided that 1 of Keating or Beau had to go - we kept Beau. Doesn't mean Crackers can't do a job for a team in need of an experienced ruck.
