Thanks for the Vid 4n20, Clinkers def likes to chance his arm and arch the back doesn't he?
Perhaps that is where he is coming a little unstack at AFL level, the game is faster - the players are fast and archign the back isnt working for him thus confidence takes a dent and poor skills/ decision making ensuites....

Lets just end the thread here. I'll tell it like it is. At the moment he's a crab, the only thing he has going for him is speed. Cannot hit targets consistently at WAFL or AFL level unless they are 'dinky' little 20m kicks, lets face it kicking is the MOST important skill in the game. For an outside reciever he should be highly competent by now. I know he is a 2 year player, but you either have good kicking and decision making skills or you do not. He does not. Training may be able to get him to an average level, because atm he is well below average in terms of depth of precision.

I do not see any other redeeming qualities at the moment bar his speed. Feels like Brett Peake all over again to me. Shows flashes, but in the end I think he will be Brett Peake version 2. I'll be glad to eat humble pie, and hope the kid proves me wrong but i usually have pretty good insticnts when it comes to evaluating young talent and the kid doesnt seem to be more than what i have described. Like i said happy to be proven wrong though.

Haven't seen enough of him play to pass judgement but wondering if all the hype about us being too slow a few years back put the pressure on us to draft fast at the expense of other things.

No doubt speed is important but real pure running speed is a different thing to speed and poise in traffic, good decision making and quick hands, all of which will make a player seem faster. I guess my point is that slower players can compensate with good skills and a footy brain.

For example Hasleby only looks slow when he is either chasing someone or in wide open space, running with the ball, neither of which are the most important features of his game. On another note i wonder how fast someone like Chris Judd actually is (in the draft camp sense).

That video shows why he is a project player. Good speed, good awareness, has some good disposal but some shockers. Not too far off being like Rhys though.

In dodgy disposal perhaps, but Hinkley is like melting butter next to Palmer, too soft to be inside and too crap a kick to be outside.

But he was taken as a second round draft pick and it's way too early to write him off IMO, but he'd be wanting to string together a few games for the club next year, needs to improve WAFL form.

 Too soft? yeah.. totally. Wish some people would actually get a clue for once. This too soft bullshit that keeps being spread around over players is just absurd. They play football, they aren't too soft. I don't see you out there playing football.

Hopefully when he improves his disposal and improves his awareness he can grow into a decent winger, but he is no inside midfielder.

Too soft to play football? No. Too soft to play that role? IMO yes.

Well put Azza agree completely

A lot of people bagged Ibbotson just like Hinkley is copping it at the moment.

Middy, since you apparently know the guy, can you give everyone here a bit of a personal description on his personality. Is he quiet? Loud and brash? Fragile? Tough as nails?

I think the difference between Ibbotson and Hinkley is Ibbotson has kicking ability.

Hinkley seems to be a one trick poney at the moment, however I certanly think he deserves another season...Considering the time we have given some of the other hacks.
