Can someone with a better footy brain than I tell me how we win a hell of a lot of ball from bounces in our defensive fifty but can't seem to replicate it anywhere else on the ground.

The same reason in Derby XXIII we won more clearances after Sandi, our only ruck went off: Neccessity.

Necessity being the mother of intention.

Closer to goal it becomes desperate to save the goal and not conceed. When Sandi went off against and Eagles dominant midfield it's vital to be at the very best not to get smashed. You wanna try and explain it any better? Or have I once again misread the intention of that rolleyes smilie.

On that point Kapow, the intensity should be there at every stoppage. I can't believe they're not as desperate at the centre clearances. It has to be some kind of difference in setup!

They probably are but when it becomes crucial to do something it's just natural to lift your rating. I don't really know though. It could be a difference in set-up. It could also have to do with the difference of players around the ball.

More players around the ball, means you are more likely to win a clearance, and there is usually more defenders around the ball than the attacking team.

Of course if everyones back in defence, you dont have anyone to kick to once you win the ball, not to mention the other team now has more players in defence.

I'm starting to think that clearances are an overrated stat.

Against the Dee's we won the clearances but got flogged.

We got flogged in the clearances against the Roo's but won the game comfortably.

Even in our 112pt drubbing of the Pies , the clearances were dead even.

I think it is more important to stop the opposition getting clean clearances and trying to get a few clean ones ourselves rather than worry about the pure numbers.

The problem with our midfielders in the clearances is they are reactive rather than proactive. It's as if they know they might well lose the clearance so they have a negative mindset at the stoppage and try to contain as much as they do try win the ball. Football is played in the mind.

We also don't have any midfielders that are evasive and have quick lateral movement. Mundy, Schammer and Hayden do but they are in the backline.

well summarised, i agree with u 110% we are reactive then proactive he only current player who puts his body in packs hunting for the ball some times is bell and bogan carr the rest just wait for the ball to come to them and when they do get the ball they dont try and handball it off asap they try and get whole body with ball out of crowd which is why we loose centre bounces.

This is the reason Schammer must play in the mid field.
