The West Coast Eagles are aware of an incident involving small forward Liam Ryan overnight.

The club is ascertaining details of the incident which also involved a minor traffic accident which was attended by police.

When the club has established the facts surrounding this matter it will release those details, but until then no further comment will be made.

Unfortunate. I think we all feared that these kinds of things would happen when we drafted Liam. He seemed to have turned the corner though, so hopefully there's nothing untoward going on.

Was he getting into much off-field problems Pre draft? I never heard anything.

What’s the assumption here? Minor traffic accident attended by police could be anything - how serious should I be assuming this to be? Does he have a history?

Only fears i heard about was his work ethic in putting on defensive pressure.

I think he had problems with alcohol back in 2016, which is what I'm concerned has happened here. From 2017 onwards though it sounded as though he put that behind him, so hopefully it's just a simple traffic accident and he wasn't drink driving or anything.

Sorry to intrude, but I recently had a minor traffic accident and the police told me they don’t attend unless someone is hurt or alcohol is involved.

I think he was a pretty heavy drinker. By his own admission he preferred to drink with the boys then play footy. He claimed to have given up the turps, hopefully no alcohol involved.

Yeah this is my concern. Doesn't seem like something that you'd see if for instance JJK had had a little prang. Doubt we'd even hear about it at all unless he was injured.

The fact that the club was so quick to release an official statement tells you all you need to know. Much more than just a minor traffic incident...
