Gave his strongest indication yet of his desire to join the board and become president yesterday.

What do we think of this? I think the finances would/should grow substanially with him at the helm, not that we have done poorly in the last couple of years. I would think that March will be there as pres for maybe 2 more years and then hand over to 'crazy' after that.

More importantly i think it would p1ss eddie maquire of big time. Imaging him having to give free plugs to the pres of Richmond. I can feel the squirming already.

Its worth it just for that...

But as always take it as a grain of salt until he actually does it, heard it all before.

how has he shown his strongest indication yet? didn't he just spend 1million dollars plus on the naming rights with south dragons? heard him talking bout it on SEN, and it sounds like he would have to put in a lot of work and time to make that happen? surely taking on richmond and and south dragons would be way too much work for him to be doing?? surely he stilll has plenty of work to do with his own company?

He fooled you again Peejay. It's about that time again when he gives his usual plug for crazy johns by wanting to do great things for richmond. He's got plenty on his plate at the moment with telstra suing his pants.

Been hearing about him 'wanting' to join for a while and surely someone of his stature would be good for the club. However, its just been him saying he wants to do this and do that with richmond. Either do it or sshhhhh!

We tried that silly experiment with Alan Bond in the 80's!

Then we flirted with it again in the Casey years.

I want nothing to do with this attention seeker. FFS entrepreneurs are not the kind of people you want running the club - entrepreneurs have a habit of going broke and taking everything down with them.

Someone like Leon Daphne or Charles Macek, guys who run mega organisations profitably and professionally, these are the type of guys I want running the club.

If the guy really wants to help the club he can become major sponsor. I don't want him running the show though. No way.

Well I heard him actually say - I am looking to nominate myself for the board -on tv last night. I know he has hinted at it before but surely he can't keep saying it and not do it eventually. that is what i meant about strongest indication.

Maybe he wants this guy on our board??? Would fit in well I reckon. More recognisable than Gary March.

the feeling i get is that crazy john would only jump on board with Richmond if it suited his agenda and he would reap substantial benefits from doing so. Not because he loves the club and wants to better its operations. From all the crapping on he has done about it, it seems like its all about him and not about richmond.

Thanks, but no thanks!
You wonder how much is just about the promotion of his business than about the RFC.
Methinks not much about the club!

Agreed ... if he was genuine in his passion for the RFC he could have gotten involved at some level before now ... as i said ... if he was truelly passionate .

Funny how it always through the media he announces these intentions ...

Hows things Frorsy?

I think you gotta ask him how long he's been a member, and I don't think he was in the past.
Then you gotta ask yourself, well how much does he love the club?
If he's willing to put the money in and not just develop his own profile, why doesn't he just write a cheque and forget about the presidency.
We'll take his money, publicise what a great bloke he is - good for his business and good for us - and he can go on his merry way lol
If you don't luv Richmond with all your heart, bye-bye
The guy in at the moment is doing okay and he is a true Richmond supporter.
Money and flash people mean nothing to me.
Can't see why people are so impressed with him. What has he done for the club in the past that would warrant such a need to have him there.
Nothin!
As I said before, we'd more than welcome his money. But I am very suspicious of his motives and what the long term benefits of the club will be.

Fair points there Froars about loving the club etc.

But to be fair Crazy John's is listed as a sponsor on the club website - sponsor the Rookie Club, not sure how much that is worth or if he does anything else.

Means ferk all peejay, he's a major sponsor of the Scum too.....so much for being a one eyed loyal Tiger? I'm all with froars. You can't love this club and be a major sponsor of Collingwood at the same time...sorry. Self promotion and free advertising is all he seems to want from Richmond and its difficult to see otherwise. Always fails at the same hurdle, the one where its time to put your money where your mouth is.

Basically he's putting his fingers into a lot of pies.
He runs a business. Makes good business sense to be a sponsor of the biggest sporting organisation in the country in the Pies.
I don't have a problem with Crazy Johns sponsoring Collingwood, providing if he's as Richmond through-and-through as he says he is, that our sponsorship is worth more.
They've just announced a big sponsorship deal with the South Dragons. If he's throwing money at a white elephant like basketball in Australia, then surely he's a got bit left over to chuck our way.

Crazy John has no money since Telstra kicked him off their payroll. They sued him, he lost his contracts, and now they're suing him again.

If you want a high profile guy on the board, how many people are there out there that know Russell Crow is the media celebrity/public figure that is by far the most passionate supporter of the RFC???

Poor Russ. he barracks for the Tigers AND the Rabbitohs.

I'm not a believer in the 'any publicity is good publicity' myth.

If he wants to get involvedthat's great. If he also wants to get a bit of free publicity out of his position forget about it. There is definitley a bit of the 'Bondy' about this bloke.

Some people like to think that anyone high profile is good for a footy club but so often that has been proven wrong. Give me a competent low key President any day of the week.
