A little bit about the computer;
coming up 4 years old
Motherboard: ASUS P5E, X38 (dual PC2-6400U DDR2) (90-MBB7X0-G0EAY00Z)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
MEMORY: 2x2GB
OS: Windows 7 (not activated)

original error read: CMOS Checksum Bad (when it finally boots)

For a long time the computer had started with a very unusual sequence of beeps. After some time when turning the computer on you could hear it start and one beep but nothing would display on the monitor. After trying numerous restarts with the front button the computer would then boot and run as normal – just couldnt risk turning it off.

I have replaced one of the sticks of memory having been told it could be this, it seemed to boot after that although that could have been pure luck. I’m now back to 15 restarts before anything will come up on the display.

I replaced the motherboard battery this morning, and it was fine with a few restarts. Now the machine is not booting at all.
Fans are running and it takes a few seconds and there are 4 beeps ? Nothing on the monitor display

Thanks

I'm leaning towards;
1 Long Beep, 3 Short Beeps
One long beep followed by three short beeps means that either the video card isn't installed or the memory on the video card is bad. Reseating or replacing the video card will typically fix the cause of this Award beep code.
