Good to see TW taking positive action in terms of the youth policy. IMO whilst a couple of seasons in the making, it is the only way forward. Sticking to the "no compromises" principle will be critical. He'll also need to demand the highest of standards within the football department - including recruitment & player development & management. Could be interesting to see how the Director of Football might react to the coach taking firmer control. Until now, GM has been able to wield power & influence almost at will at all levels of the club & he has an extensive track record of wanting to recruit recycled players. Changes ahead there too?

... an interesting first up post to say the least

Interesting questions.
I think there were two likey eventualities this year - If the experienced brigade pulled their weight (Gas, Kingsley, Tuck, Krak, Johnson etc) and we were injury-free (see Cogs, Simmo, Hall, Brown), we would be seeing finals this year (though that may have been a false dawn).
The other possibility was that things would fall apart, that injuries, age and poor form would cruel our season, and it would appear to be a step backward in terms of ladder progression (ie no finals this year).
Now that is is clearly the latter, TW has flicked the switch, and brought forward the progrssion of the youth, and though it will affect our short-term progression, ultimately it will pay dividends.
From my point of view this year, i would much rather see a bottom of the table team of tiger youngsters having a red-hot go and developing in front of my eyes, than the same team of mid-table tryers who havent made it and never will.

Just your average punter & no inside info!
But it seems logical that if you're going to follow a youth policy & if you are serious about matching it with interstate clubs, then you need to set the highest of standards across the club & refuse to accept mediocrity - particularly in the areas of recruitment, player learning & development & player support & management. It's no good just blaming players or the coach or lack of resources when you fail. You need to be prepared to subject all areas of the club, and particularly the football department to the highest levels of scrutiny.

There are plenty of examples in recent years of talented youth at Punt Road who just haven't reached their true potential. We need to understand why. The football department always seems able to escape any degree of accountability and that just might have something to do with the cosy relationships of those at the top.

For example - what sort of standard & perception does The Dominator portray as our runner!

Its only taken 2 years and five rounds.

i detected a clear change in the recruiting direction since Francis Jackson was appointed...GM's work in that form was overrated. Miller needs to manage the dept wiuth the right people in the right posts.rather than meddle in everything. we're on the way

This should have been done 2 years ago. Not in his third year.

terry you have got itwrong for 2 and a bit yrs. we all shook our heads in disbelief when you said the seniors deserve a taste of finals they deserve nothing those same seniors have stuffed this club up for as long as well their tenure. imo you have wasted 2 yrs its time to make up for your mistakes and bloody well adopt a proper youth policy. oh and terry the very first delisted is not a player but that hack miller.

Thank God a few others are starting to see where the real problem lies. Caro Wilson sums it up well in her article in today's Sunday Age- Kingsley presence at odds with policy: "...Given the Tigers' poor record with recycled players over the past 5 years & the club's continuing insistence on recruiting veterans....Richmond's decision to take him (Kingsley) was part of the culture that the club's recruiting chief, Miller, criticised when he came to the club.......and yet continues to perpetuate."

So who is holding Miller accountable for his work of the past 5 years? Apparently no one. Could that have anything to do with his dual role as Football Director and as a Director of the Board?
