Coaching and Game Plan

First time I thought there is a semblance of a game plan that I could identify, especially on the backline and midfield.
Having a defender in front and back of their forwards worked well, our kicking in to position really improved. Our mids spread better and although some friends didn't like Sidebottom's game I thought he was very good. The ball was really hot and at times and it wasn't wrong to kick it forward. That was the type of game it was.
Last week our forwards kicked the majority of goals and this week it was our mids that did most of the work, imagine if they both click on the same day?

Makes sense, WC have a super backline and their midfield is a bit thin.

Did I also notice a bit of press in that last quarter? Seemed like it from where I was sitting. We were harassing and tackling like men possessed in forward 50 and when they panicked with the bomb out kick, we were there to take an easy mark and reload. Was very 2010-11 like ;)

Semblance of a game plan? Certainly something was going on out there last night. The Pies looked more comfortable than I have seen them for a long time, and grew in confidence as the night wore on. They also looked to be enjoying themselves, for a change this year. While the ferocity and intensity - which most agree was very 2010-esque - could be attributed to the emotion and feeling for JMac, there was also more structure. The defence functioned, with Reid exceptional; the mids did a vastly more complete job than recent times; and Pendles was excellent as captain. Absolute congratulations to the club for the way it handled an incredibly tough week (which also included the Malthouse treachery). Unbelievably, amazingly, we are into our 7th prelim final in 10 years. Yet again, the Pies are delivering for us fans.

Yet only one flag.
4 teams make the prelims, so on average there's 1 in 4 chance of winning the flag from there. We've got 1 in 6, so we need this flag to get a decent return of 2 in 7.

We also did amazingly well to just make prelims in 02, 07 and 09. Especially 07.

But in any case, from those 6 prelims we have made 4 GFs. The problem seems to be there. :(

The game plan has always been there it's just that we are now finally getting the personnel out there to carry it out. We are still playing catch up but we are on an upwards trajectory it seems.

Our structures just held up better because they are stringing some games together and getting continuity. Our contested style is very suited to finals and the boys stood up.

We still have a way to go but we are taking steps in the right direction.

I notice that the Buckley knockers aren't about this week? Funny that! He coached an almost perfect game.

I've been finding it wry difficult to see what exactly our game plan is this year. For a lot of the year I'm sure it was 'if you get your hands on the ball, bomb it 50 meters to a 3 on 1 against us. We might get lucky.'

The teams structure looked a lot better on Saturday.
