How’s everyone thinking our coaching group are going this year with the likes of Whiskers and co on board.

I’m not of the inner sanctum know but they’re looking to be a good cohesive unit so far. Except on days like vs Eagles. But that’s not to say they’re shit. We just got out gunned that day.

What’s your opinion? Any knowledge of performance to date with real stats?

Anyone interested in bringing Blake Caracella back to Pieland? Are we one of the clubs circling?

Caracella would be leaving only for a senior gig... which means probably only St Kilda or Carlton..

I think me and the most of the footy world consider coaches are great when wining and bad when not.

IMO, the collective has improved, but I’m not convinced they’re coaching considerably better overall than 2017. Where I think we’ve improved is in a few specific areas:

A) match committee
B) development
C) ball movement

From 14-17 I wouldn’t able to count the number of times I was completely baffled by the teamsheet on a Thursday night. We genuinely seemed a club that had no idea what we wanted our best 22 to look like. There’s been a few in 18, but overall it’s settled right down and goes hand in hand with development. Allowing guys an extended run at it has enabled them to develop with Scharenberg, JT, Stephenson and Phillips in particular benefiting and hopefully moving forward Sier and Daicos. This was a staple of ours for a long time so I’m glad it’s back. Our ball movement has gone from chip chip chip crab movements to open and free flowing. It’s made us fun to watch again so even if we were losing I’d still be pleased.

One other point I’d like to raise in regards to why results aren’t always indicative of coaching performances is the respective scoring shots in the WC and North matches at half time. Against WC it was 15-9 our favour and v North 16-11 in our favour. The difference between good and bad conversion can be a massive factor in the end result, IMO. I think conversion has been better in 18 because we’re fitter than 17 and we’re getting the ball in the hands of better users much more often than we did last year.

In terms of the whole picture and results would I say the coaching group are doing a great job? Personally no the outcomes are keeping pace with the expectations I have on the group. We’re currently seeing what the list was capable of through those down years that’s all ATM. What will indicate whether they take the next step to greatness is what we achieve in September.

Not for 2019. The only role I see for him is Harvey’s and given the momentum the club is starting to build I think the status quo and the consistency of msg provides greater benefits than an outsider coming in. I’m mostly intrigued by whether you, or others, would consider offering an extension to Buckley before the season is out? I’m a flat out no, but I think there would be a groundswell of support for it when it eventually gets raised late in 18.

Not off the back of one good year no (to reconstract Bucks). Doing a good job and merits holding position. Win the flag and I would look for Eddie to be coming with the open chequebook and keys to the city. But whilst a dream come true, I think we would be a bit off the pace this year at least.

To me, extending him during this season because of our wins over a relatively short timeframe would be about as reactionary as sacking him after a poor run in 2017. Can't see it getting raised as a substantive issue whilst our season is still alive.

There will be too much happening around our end of season/finals performance for the press to write about Buckley's future. And Bucks would certainly dismiss any media talk of it during the season. Unlike his predecessor.

Some of the assistants took my team for a training session last night I was really disappointed I didn’t get to go as I had work :(

Damn. No cough, cough, I feel like i’ve Got a cold? Haha. Next time. Next time, get to training for the good stuff.

Always tough to gauge from the outside looking in but the improved performance this year must in some way be credited with our current coaching group along with the other changes implemented.

Would love to grab Caracella. He seemed to do a good job in his development role when he was with us under MM. Seems to be doing similarly well at the Tigas. Realistically though Harvey has the only spot you'd think he'd be interested in and I get the impression Bucks likes Harvey and what he brings to the coaching group.

I think Nick Maxwell has been a great addition to the club.

Very true. The problem with your theory though would be that the calls for Buckley’s sacking were based on performances over the duration of 14-17 not last year in isolation :thumbsu:

The longer duration of poorer performances actually reinforces the "theory" that it would be reactionary to extend in-season on the strength of performances this season.

Think the assistants have been great, they all are really highly rated and know what they are talking about.
Hocking & Longmuior are the keys, fantastic pick ups.

Looks like Sam Mitchell is back on the market - about to cut his tenure at WCE a couple of years short and returning to Melbourne (news via The footy Show)

Would be a good pick up .

It would be nice to get an ex Hawk. Rather have Caracella though!
I'd swap Harves for either of them!

You just know if we tried to get either that the AFL would blackban any such move!

We’re a good chance for top 4. Reckon the coaching group are going well.

Win games, coaching group is good.

Lose games, coaching group is bad.
