When will this kid show us all how good he really is?
I am a huuuuuge fan, but do you guys think its just been injury that has slowed him down? He seems to play 'injured' a lot.

I would love to see Colin step up in 2007.

The only thing that makes me a little concerned is that he appears to be an 'old school' bang crash player rather than the new 'athlete' type.

What do you guys think?

I think he looks a very versatile type of player capable of pushing forward and kicking goals from running through the midfield. There is no doubt in my mind that he is a midfielder who hasn't been able to play there regularly due to injuries and an interrupted pre-season that hampers his fitness base. If he can get a full pre-season in along with Brent Moloney then I reckon that the Melbourne midfield will be quite formidable.

He may look like an old style player but he is in fact a fantastic athlete. He is fast and has a massive leap.

I would be lying if i said that im not a little bit worried about Sylvia's progress. He obviously needs to remain injury free. Thats an understatement. I think he may be playing for his career at Melbourne in the next couple of seasons

Trapper had about 3 bad seasons in a row before he done a full pre-season and showed us what he could do, give him a full pre-season and then judge him. Heard they work wonders

Yeah but Trapper had well and truly shown he was an elite talent (albeit in very short bursts).

Sylvia seems to lack a basic football brain.

I hope he makes it, but I'm a bit worried.

It is sad to say because im a huge fan of sylvia but if it wasnt for sylvia being a number 3 draft pick people wouldnt be giving him as much time to shine. He doesnt seem to know how to read the play and gives away free kicks when he tackles. He also lacks a bit of awareness when he has the ball. Bartram should be rated higher, but he isnt because he was taken at pick 60. It takes about 5 years for a player to shake their draft position.

Thats a huge call. The rate that Brocky is going, he will be captain when Neita steps down.

Question of potential.
When Col first came I doubted him a bit, and although he hasn't done that much since, trust me the kid will come good.
He has no real weakness in his game aside from the occasional brain fade. Give him time and he has that dreaded word 'potential' to be top 10, maybe even top 5 in the competition in a few years.
With he and Beamer firing our midfield could be second bset in the competition.

He's another Wheatley. Plenty of promise but that's about it. Bet you a dollar, if he stays at Melbourne, Daniher will turn him into a Godfrey clone.

Just out of interest Spirit of 26, are you an elder supporter of the club or a fairly younger one? I just remember reading about one of the guys who posted on Demonland and he was an elder supporter of the club, and for some reasong "Spirit of 26" rings a bell.

Cheers.

Brock McLean is so good he will actually decide when Neita is allowed to step down and when he wants to become the club captain.

:thumbsu: ;)

Dont put those two names in the same sentence. Colin is more of a natural football player than him, and prob brocky as well. Give him time, he's coming along...

Exactly, he isn't even 20 and his career so far has been riddled with injury (OP and shoulder from memory).

I liked what i seen of him this year, he did some good things and his game against the crows in rd 22 was better then most others on the day.

Hopefully an un-interupted preseason this year will put him in good stead for a big one in 07.

Lets not get too excited with analysis........ Scott Thomposon could be a good comparison though, took him a few years to find his feet.

Col has the potential to be better than Thomo could ever be and I rate Thomo highly.
If he doesn't fulfil his potential consistently through his career I'll cry. The kid could be an absoloute superstar.

Sylvia won't be a flashy player, he will be a reinvention of the old hard nosed players yet with some of the modern skill. If all goes well, he will have the attributes that other players could only dream of having. He's a strong mark, good pace, massive and accurate kick, ruthless tackle, loads of courage, strong body in all areas and he knows how to throw his weight around with it and of course, a good spring in his step (just ask Fergy)

We all know he has all these attributes and when he throws em altogether, we will have an amazing midfielder. Even if he can't, he'll still be decent. It's hard to see him winding up a hack.

he finished the year well. Has had rib/lung/shoulder/op problems, i think the way he plays he'll always be injured, hopefully he gets a bit of luck he could be a star
