It has been confirmed in one of the Melbourne papers that Collard flew to Melbourne over the weekend to train with Richmond prior to the PSD in the hope that they will pick him up with their #1 pick... or possibly rookie list him if they don't take him in the PSD - they have the #1 rookie pick too of course.

Suffice to say it looks very, very unlikely that Clayton Collard will be on Freo's list next year. Harves must have told him they won't be picking him up and he's looking for opportunities elsewhere.

Unfortunately I think it's a lesson the kid had to learn. There is no doubting his talent, so his delisting would have been attitude based, which is why all the other clubs ignored him in the draft.

I would love to see the kid make a real go of it.

Not necessarily I.P. The Dockers could still intend to pick him up. However, other clubs have higher picks, and more money to offer in the PSD, so it makes sense for him not to wait around.

This could say more about Richmond than it does about us. I've long had the view that Greg Miller, the Richmond football manager, is a bit of a nong. He's the same guy that offered Simmonds a 5 year deal, and has drafted slightly built fleet footed youngsters that are now heading into a 4th season having shown very little. Think Tambling for example. Compare the progress made by Hawthorn in the same period.

If Miller and Wallace want Collard then good luck to them. They can take a problem off our hands. They still have to develop Collard to understand and meet the demands of AFL football. I'd much rather Ash McGrath in the PSD who has less potential but more substance.
