They're damned if they do, damned if they dont. In a draft that promising next to nothing, its a bad yera to finish second bottom with priority picks. We hear of people saying we need this, we need that, but wat do u really need? Name a midfielder collingwood has waiting int the wings that enxt year will step up and get 20+ possies a game for us(Age 20-24 years). Thats rite, no one. We see other clubs:
Dogs: Cooney, Cross, Griffen
Eagles: Kerr, Judd, Steglein
Carlton: Walker
Crows: Thompson, Reilly, Skipworth
Geelong: Kelly, Ablett, Bartel (how long till he ends up at the great club
)
Saints: Dal Santo, Ball, Gwilt- to an extent, kicks handy goals at right times, looks goods.
they are just clubs to name a few, all of those clubs, bar carlton, are on the cusp of playing finals footy. All ebecause they have sustainable midfielders in a group thatll last 8-10 years. However, the most important thing about thse player sis that they are all CLASS. Runners, great disposal, clean feet, speed, agility, ball winning ability. In a draft like 2005, BEGGERS CANT BE CHOOSERS. unfortunately, we cant take a franklin or a deleidio or have that dept, and know that these players WILL be superstars.
Ill tell ya right now, murphy is all but stitched up to the blues. that leaves us with a huge dilemma. Do we take an outside receiever in the mould of shane woewodin, except is a bit quicker (ELLIS) or to we take a nice big strong in an under midfielder with good delivery, however lacks the pace we so desperately need in a struggling midfield (HURN). What ever decision collingwood make, they are damned if they do, damned if they dont. One may be a superstar, one might not, both might not, bot might be. Drafting is very much a game of guessing and chance. Most times its the luck of the draw. Who the hell can prodict6 a [plaer will/ can become a superstar in the future.
u say we need ruckman. No we dont. We are too heavy with ruckman. Fraser, Richards, Fanning, and Rocca part time, thats enou8gh,. when these player asare all fit and firing, there will be no opps for a player liek ryder. ina ddition, ryder is too small, and slow for a player of that size. in addition, he doesnt attract enough of the ball. he has a huge question mark over his head.
overall, we need to take watever and whoever is the ebst pick. Ibn previous drafts, u coul;d take wat u want accoridng according to team structure needs. This year, its first in best dressed. You cant give and take this year, however it is the game of take the best player we can, and leave it at that.
hopefully we can pull of a monty, but i warn u before hand, dont get wrapped oevr a draft that lacks depth. We may pick up a superstar at pick 40 this year, rather than pick 2, the draft is that shallow/ even.
