Composure starts with leaders. Our Defence looked panicky cos our key backman is Rance. He is the leader of our backline, to his credit he picked up in last quarter but his jittery play in first 3 qtrs set the tone. Need composed assured defensive leaders. Chaplin is a good start, but it's a big problem IMO. Worth sending Lids back for 4-5 weeks I reckon

I'll spell it out really slowly .

Shaun Grigg puts zero defensive pressure absolutely NONE and when opposition sides dominate him it's no coincidence it's his direct opponent who dominates. !

I'll see your Shaun Grigg and raise you a

Lids was shut out, Jack had little impact on the scoreboard, etc etc

Not on one players shoulders.

Not sure why but we continued to bomb it long after quarter time and Freo's defenders kept cutting them off. It happened last year and it happened tonight. We need to run and carry or try and draw them in and hit them on the counter when the space opens up. McPharlin, Johnson, Ibbotson and co racked up easy marks because we kept bombing it.

A bit of common sense to not bomb it would have been good. Every time we bombed it, they sent it back which just added to the pressure on the defenders and leads to mistakes which lead to turnovers which leads to opposition scores....

Could of...should of....but never do!

You can make all the excuses you want but we are repeat serial offenders.

Surely you are not suggesting it was an honourable loss?
Thought we were past those...

(Agree though, credit for the fightback etc...)

I'm not, but some of us seem to putting this loss into the same category as Gold Coast last year, which of course it's not.

i think part of the problem is we still have quite a young and inexperienced backline. midfield is still fairly inexperienced too. we need to get better at outnumbering and pushing back when we lose the ball. they got some easy goals once we turned it over. i don't know the stats here so could be wrong, but we didn't seem to get alot of hitouts to advantage last night either which i felt hurt, especially late in the game.

So many kicks went 50 metres high and 20 metres forward even sideways at times. This team also needs to shepherd more for one another and lower the damn eyes a bit. Frustrating indeed but proud of the effort in a way.
