OK so I just recently dug up my old Laptop, I powered it up and got it running then it came to the screen where I had log in and enter a password and for the life of me I cannot remember what I set it as, I have been sitting here for hours trying to work it out but cannot get it.

I was wondering is there anyway to get into my laptop by bypassing the password or something, can I reformat the laptop without needing the password to go into it cause I will do that if I have to, anyway legal or illegal(PM me if that) I will do it.

BTW I am running Windows XP Proffesional.

Any help is really, really appreciated.

If I need to elaborate just ask.

Yeah, you don't need to login to the computer to reformat. I'm assuming that there is nothign on the laptop that you need to keep? If there is then you may have to take it to a professional or something. Perhaps it's possible to hack. Otherwise, just boot from the CD and format the **** out of it!

Just wondering too, I actually don't have the original Windows XP Professional CD I only have the XP Home version, will that work just the same?

I don't see why not. I'm not even sure what the differences are. If you get to a "I can't be bothered, just let someone else do it" stage, get in touch with www.newcomputers.com.au

They will redo the whole thing for you and install of the drivers etc too (well they did for me at least). The only thing that matters is that you have a serial number for XP.

Boot up your computer in safe mode (press F8 while booting up) select the administrator account then change the password through the user accounts sectio under the control panel for the account you lost the password to. Never done this on a laptop but works fine on PCs.
