Ok my computer is making weird noises. Whenever i start it up it just is bloody noisy and this continues on for ages. My housemate(comp science guy) said it might be cause its too dusty, so i cleaned it out. That didnt work, its still making all kinds of noises. Anyone else have any ideas what the problem is? Im getting a new computer soon and my parents are getting this one, i dont want it to blow up on them as they need a computer but cant affford to buy 2 (my dads buying my new one)

Cheers.

Like Minksu-swan said, It is likely it is the fan! I know my parents comp makes a loud noise when it starts up.and the fan is covered in dust!

You may want to try giving the fan a good clean.

Its a buzzing noise. It may very well be the fan but i tried cleaning that yesterday. Otherwise if its the hard drive thats not so bad, they are easily replacable if they die:p Just dont want my hard drive catching on fire like meads!!! I will endeavour to look at the fan today and report back.

Most likely dust in the power supply fan, cpu fan, video card fan.

Or it could be an IDE cable or other cable, scrapping on another fan.

Run the PC with the case of and look for the noise.

Loud vibrating noises (from my experience) tend to be because some other cable is touching a fan, usually the CPU fan. This is particularly the case if you have some of the cables for the buttons/lights on the front not hooked up for some reason (ie the person who built the machine is too slack).

If the noise goes on for a while then eventually stops it could be a bearing in one of the fans, in which case you probably need to replace the fan.

Sounds like a problem I had with my old computer. Upon startup it would make a good awful raquet that progressively got worse over time until one day my hard drive overheated and fried. I'm not overly good with computers so I couldn't tell you how to fix it, but if it's the same problem as I had then you better do something ASAP before it's beyond repair.

Definitely overheating, pour some water in to cool it down next time you hear it.
