I was glad to read that interview with Sanderson (about Jamie Elliott's return from injury) where he said he's already had heated discussions with Bucks about how we're doing things.

Great news. Means Sando isn't there to be his best mate "yes man" but he's actually there to - as his best mate, be honest with Bucks and point out where he thinks we could be going better. Maybe Bucks realised he had a bunch of yes men around him? Hopefully?

Always thought that's a reason they wanted Sanderson in.

Hopefully. There is also a real possibility that Sando will be the next senior coach of Collingwood.

Will need to pick up his people skills first. Comes across as very quiet. Otherwise has all the necessary skills to make a good coach, but generally I don't think introverts make good coaches. I would think he's the perfect complement for Buckley, who's also a close friend. The two together should make a good combination.

I'd be ok with that.

We need a "non-Collingwood" person. Even though technically Sando played for a very short time for us.

Lot of sideways movement in that breakdown. Overall only three fresh faces with one the coaches best mate. Shuffling the deckchairs on the Titanic when a complete re-modelling was needed, IMO, but we'll see.

Most here would agree that friendship is irrelevant - its all about competence.
If we appointed an incompetent friend then that would be a problem.

I was listening to Sando on the ABC after he took up the position and he said he agonised over whether he should take up the job given his great friendship with Bucks. He said he talked to a few people (can't remember who) really in depth about whether it would work.

I reckon he'll be really good for us.

I tend to agree, but I do like that we advertised a few of the positions.

By reading through those position descriptions, which don't mention the next generation academy, it seems the academy positions are interchangeable and/or an extension of the old development positions. With a net gain of Gotch and Power we've significantly beefed up that department. Dixon and Cassidy-McNamara having dual roles seems to have allowed this increase.

We also look to have filled the vacant Development Manager role albeit with a shiny new title of Head of Academy, this sees Lockyer get a promotion with Gotch, Cassidy-McNamara and Rocca reporting to him. I think Macaffer and Dixon will be good fits into the external player development (welfare) positions. Being a recently retired player Macaffer should be able to relate to their needs and Dixon has experience in that area. Hopefully we see an improvement after the rumoured criticism and errors.

Agree about that article; Sanderson is certainly saying the right things. Here's a link and the audio of the interview

The titanic was fine it just needed to not hit an iceberg, and needed more lifeboats on board in case of emergency ;)

The former Adelaide coach said getting back into coaching at a club had reminded him of his passion to teach and develop players in the system, and that he had already had some "pretty heated debates" with close friend and Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley about how the Pies should play next season.

Reading stuff like this is quite frankly heart warming.

Would be even MORE heartwarming if we could get confirmation from Bucks that he realised he was surrounded by yes men and brought Sando in for this very reason.
