Hey Bigfooty people. I'm confused. Don't know where I want to go or where I want to be. I finished school last year, and took this year off, and have spent most of it with my girlfriend. I defered two University courses, one in Lismore, one in Bunbury, west aus. BUT, I dont know if I want to do either of them or if I want to find a course closer to my girl. Infact, I dont have a clue what I want to do. Do I want to travel? Do I want to buy a Kombi and surf every break in this awsom country of ours. Please people. I need advice. Serious advice. Tell me what you did (if you have made a career for yourself) tell me what you plan to do if you are in the same stage as me. I need advice!!!

Go to uni and do something really generic like arts or commerce or science. That'll help u find something u really love! Do one of those career test things and have a good look at that!

Maybe you could try to find a Uni or TAFE course which might blend in with your love for surfing, I dunno maybe something in the hospitality or tourism industry where you could hopefully eventually work near surf breaks. Other than that maybe try for a Uni course in the same city as your gf and see how you go, it's always better to get a Uni degree or some qualification behind you if you can even if you don't want a career in that field in the end.

Aparently there is a surfing degree at some uni in the south-west of England. Cornwall I think.

I am currently studying to become a Primary School teacher, and I must say that it's awesome! The work is pretty boring, but I just did my first block of school rounds and that's where it all happens! It's the best job by a mile I reckon!

Plus there are plenty of job oppurtunites out there as well, which is a big help once you get out of uni.

agree with carlyp..
apply for a course somewhere near your gf if thats what u really want...

what courses have u deferred?

get something started first.. then u can always decide to transfer uni/courses anytime..

That was going to be my advice too. That way you can think about what you like and don't like, and if you choose to go for a more specific course you may be able to get credit points from it anyway. I find that the best way to get motivated to do something is to be doing something already, otherwise it's easy to find yourself caught in a rut.

Maybe a hands on traineeship in something like Beach Conservation? I know up here there are some great courses and a big demand for trainees/students in the Environmental areas, with Beach Conservation being one always looking for candidates.
