Let me get this straight. Syria is having a civil war. The rebels are being politically backed by the West ? yes /no? Assad is regarded as a murderer of his own people and needs removing. The rebels have Al Qaeda fighting with them yes/no? So what is going on there. Who is fighting who and whose side are we on. Should be nobody I guess, but against the ones who kill civilians.
What if they all kill civilians, Al Qaeda does we know that.

I admit to knowing no more than that myself.

The "rebels", "opposition" or any other label are not a cohesive single group. There are probably Al-Qaeda among them, as is true of any armed group in the region.

While the west do not support the current Syrian regime, there isn't really (acknowledged, obviously what the various secreet services are doing is largely unknown) support for the non-government forces either. That is probably in part due to the fractured nature of the opposition. If a clear, non miltant Islamic, leadership group was to emerge that might change. It also may change if any leadership change occurs, simply for trade reasons as other Arabic and Islamic nations are presumably likely to fall in behind any new regime.

Eventually we won't use petrol , long way off, but America has oil by the billion bucket loads, stored and also has more underground in its own territory, there isn't an oil crisis or war over oil , there is simply manipulation of situations, been going on for years.
Yanks store everything they buy, and use what they drill for!

Got tons of the stuff . A leg up on everyone. Including renewables one day .

Syrian unrest started during the Arab Spring in Dec 2010.
Whilst some countries successfully overthrew their dictators (Tunisia, Libya), Syrians are still fighting to overthrow theirs.

The troubles that are continuing in Damascus are merely the old Terror cells re-filtering back into the country.....Backed, as usual, by Israel & the West....They have done a sterling job of destroying the rest of the country & now they will re-double their efforts by focusing upon Damascus in a dirty & long-drawn out guerrilla war.....Much as is happening in the Ukraine.
