Got to hand it to the boys unfortunate loss, but i would be asking (if i was Ratten) for a please explain from the AFL due to the umpiring tonight.

The boys gave it there all tonight and didnt deserve to lose.

Just to give my opinion on some players tonight

Eddie Betts couldnt do anything wrong tonight
Fevola stared
Judd looks to be at full fitness

Hmm I was thinking the same thing, I was at the game and it's hard to tell when you're clearly biased but it seemed as though the umps were favouring Essendon clearly. A free for Essendon wouldn't get paid 5 mins later to Carlton :thumbsdown:

anyway still, we should be better than the umpires influence on a game

Those late goals to Essendon in the third quater, hurt us badly. You could see carlton trying to hold up the ball towards the end of the third quarter and it backfired. Similar to the first quarter against the Saints last week.:(
 
If the umpires are going to pay those soft free kicks, they must pay them all night to both sides. The didn't do that last night. the umpires were the only negative out of the game, best game i've seen in a long long time.

Sorry can't agree. Essendon are not a finals side there a side we should be able to beat.
These good efforts are not good enough.
 
if you hadnt realised we arent a finals side either. good effort by the boys. i agree it was an awesome game apart from thge final score.
 
essendon are rubbish. and both the umpires and multiple ridiculous turnovers by Carlton handed Essendon at least half a dozen goals. more than enough to win the game. at the end of the day you can try and blame the umpires but Carlton should have won, but didn't. essendon won the game and thats all history will show.

IMO it seems that its players that umpires give the benefit of the doubt to, not teams.

Judd treats the umps with respect and he gets a lot of frees paid his way, Fev always carries on and argues with the umps, and he can get gang banged by 3 big defenders and still no whistle....co-incidence? :rolleyes:

Totally agree, Scotland and Stevens have been our biggest offenders of this in the past along with Fev.

It was good to see Fev and co get on with it, better spending time and energy on what we can control rather than what we cannot.

I am in exactly the same position. I feel that there were some disgraceful inconsistencies, both ways. At the game, I didn't notice the free kick count, but it seemed that both teams were getting frees pulled out from nowhere (but of course, in my eyes, every Essendon free is there, and every Carlton free not).

I felt that Chris Judd, best on ground for the first three quarters, showing why he is the best player in the comp, got some frees which were very pedantic, and wouldn't have been paid to, say, Cale Hooker, or your equivalent player.

Having said that, you have to earn a reputation before you can get the free kicks. This is all taking nothing away from Judd's performance which was immense for a man coming back from such a debilitating injury.
