Just need some help / advice on connection speeds when playing online.

I live in a optic fibre estate and we are with iiNet (limited choice with who we can use).

we are on the middle plan which is 25mbps / 5 mbps but every time i have done a speed test on the ps4 id be lucky to get anything over 5mbps for download and upload.

It becomes a pain in the ass when downloading game updates, but it also creates a bit of lag in some games such as FIFA Pro club and NBA my park etc.

i realise that those two gaming modes have multiple users involved which could play a part, but is there anything anyone can suggest I do to try and help increase the performance?

as it stands my normal set up is cable from the wall to iiNet modem, then modem to ps4 by a cable.

this morning i tried it going direct from the wall to the PS4 and it did increase the speeds a little bit, but i wasnt sure if that could have been more to do with the fact it was 7:00am and not many people were online. but im thinking i might move the modem to a different room and keep the ps4 plugged in directly.

any help is greatly appreciated!

Nah its bullshit. GTA Update popped last night, 2gb, no worries I though on my 100/40 connection

Less than .5mb a second. 20+ hours it was gonna take. The PSN is ****ed. In comparison, I downloaded the Forza demo on my Xbox at 50mbs

The PSN is ****ed.

Its funny, I always see people complaining about this yet I have the opposite problem, PSN downloads regularly max out my connection but XB1 downloads always seem to struggle. I've consigned myself to the fact that if I pick up a new XB1 game (admittedly isn't very often) I won't be playing it that day.

I blame the PS network. I'm on BigPond cable and sometimes get ripper speeds but more often than not it's flakey. If it were the console then I'd never get a good speed. I assume the network is mirrored because it pays to stop and resume downloads until you find a good speed.
Bingo. The fact you have to pause and resume until it gives you an acceptable speed is all on Sony. Would like to know where our PS+ money is going because Live absolutely shits on it still.

It goes towards keeping the hampsters running on their wheels. I think the network was better during PS3 days when considerably less people had plus.

Durr. It's going to getting us high quality free games each month.

Have you done a speedtest on other devices to see if it's just the PS4 or whether it's the connection?

i rearranged some cables last night and i did a speed test on my phone using wifi and got 13-15 mbps download and roughly the same for upload.

i rand the test through the ps4 again and am now getting around 7-8mbps download which is better than what i was getting but still not even close to what im paying for.

Try changing your DSN settings to that of Google (From memory 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4). Should improve a few MBP/S
But agree with all above, its garbage, especially if your running WIFI. Gone are the days when you can buy a game, rush home and play it straight away thanks to 5+GB patches.
