Not these days. A lot of the rumours these days are started from someone anonymous on the internet with no connection with anyone at all involved with the rumour. They spread like wildfire with no substance to back up the story.
The old Chinese whispers usually started with someone with a connection to the people involved. Yeah there was probably still a bit of mayo added to the story by the time it grew traction. Now days it goes from fries to a full halal snack pack in no time.
Even the media rumours are mostly bullshit these days based on nothing but adding 2 + 2 = 5 just so they can get some clicks.
If Tom Morris, who tries to squeeze crap out of a stone, isn't bighting then it's just troll shit.
