Another season in the backline to learn his trade then put the young fella in the midfield,he seems to have the traits foley does an in and under type player who's not afraid to put his body on the line.

Wasn't as good as his game against Geelong, only 8 touches, but should be at least a good player for the future

Stuff the backline, you don't see Joel Selwood 'learning his trade' in the backline. If you want the kid to be a midfielder then start him on a wing and rotate him through the middle last thing we need is another smal backman who can't take a turn in the centre.

Still too young for the middle he needs learn his craft.

joel was a better youngster then conners how can you compare them?

I'm not trying to compare them I just think this whole 'he needs time in the backline to learn the trade' is a cop out. We sent Joel Bowden back there years ago when he should've been made to get fit and become an A grade onballer and I'm yet to see Raines or Newman step up into the middle after 'learning their trade in the backline'. If anything, to learn his trade he should be made into a tagger. Nothing lets a young player learn better than playing in his future position being handed a job on someone established that he can learn the tricks from, plus he'll learn acountability that way so the positives are much greater than getting possies coming out of defence. If it doesn't come off then sure switch someone more senior onto his opponent and rotate him off the bench but I see no benefit in playing him in the backline where he'll probably be targeted and isolated by opposition coaches the way Raines has this year.
