You would hope they have started the ball rolling by now.
Especially on Pendles,Cloke and Reid.
I don't want to hear "I'm leaving it till the end of the season". with both David Cloke and Pickering being the managers of Trav and Scotty.
I don't know who is managing Reid, though I hope its not Pickering as we have all seen how he handled the Leon debacle.
The way David Cloke tried to put Collingwood over a barrel and hung out for more money for Trav last time scares me a bit also.

Re: Contract Negotiantions

I'd be pretty surprised if they had. The first opportunity they would have had was once the list was finalized at the end of November last year, however the boys boarded a flight for flagstaff some 3 days later so that's out.

Second opportunity was when they arrived home and the boys went on their summer break 2-3 days after that. The 3rd opportunity was some 10 days ago when they started for 2012. Now I'd hope the club would let them settle in for a week or two before getting stuck into things.

So IMO I don't think they would have started in earnest and if any player is signed before the nab cup kicks off that player and their management were more than likely the party to start the contract talks.

So Griffen of the Dogs and Gibson of the Hawks went to the Club 1st

Re: Contract Negotiantions

Deals usually take some time to get done. Like what ScoDog said, players probably haven't had a lot of time to sit down with the club.

As for Gibson & Griffen, they would have been in talks last year, they've just finalised their deals now.

I don't think the players would actually be needed to negotiate their contracts, Managers would be doing it for them. Players would just be getting updates on how the negotiations are progressing, assuming negotiations have in fact started.

Haha of course they don't partake in negotiations and reading back over what I said I can see why you'd think I meant it that way, I assure you though that wasn't my intention. As it is no manager will kick them off without the approval of the player first.

Dave you're forgetting one main difference between hawthorn, the bulldogs and collingwood which is that the other 2 clubs didn't go overseas for a training camp. This allowed those clubs to get discussions underway in late November.

Negotiations generally take around 6-8 weeks unless there's problems along the way. The fact that the two of them signed up in the past week and a bit makes it fit right in around the 6 week mark.

Contract negotiations would still happen whilst players are in arizona... Maybe managers will want to hold off on a deal as they expect their players value to increase over the season which can expected of pendlebury and cloke at least

I would have thought that with Pendelbury, the negotiations about money took place mostly last year. There was obviously one or more issues that were outstanding that meant that Scott and manager only wanted a one year deal....I can guess what they wanted to have a look at...
..the collective agreement outcome
..Scott's position in the leadership group
..Scott's relationship with Bucks
..the Pies continuing to get into GFs

I could add a few more, including promises from the club that they would raise his profile and market him more. This has certainly happened in the last year where Pendles has taken over from Nick as the "face" of the club. Some of that might have happened because he was acting captain, but I wouldnt be surprised if the club had promised him a higher profile.

In the end, both player and club know each other's positions on what is possible under the new collective agreement. If it was about money last year, then it should be sorted quickly. If things drag on until after the mid year, then Pendles must either be waiting on how Collingwood goes under Bucks, or he is halfway out the door to GWS.
