Converting MP4 to AVI

I have bought this external HD which plugs into the TV and you can basically play video files directly form the external HD through the TV without having you PC/laptop connected. Its like a 500gb DvD player! Problem I have though is that it wont play MP4 files. Its there any way in whcih I can convert MP4 to AVI so that thy will play?

2) Have you tried the psp video convertor? I know it does avi to mp4 but not sure if it is backwards compatible.

As a side note convertxtoDVD is sensational to burn MP4s to DVDs if you dont have such an application like Fredi.

I have two, b/c I thought the first 1 didn't work....but it was just me not knowing how to get the TV to talk to it properly.

Its ok, but doesn't have HDMI and the instructions are all in French! Also it can be tempramental....ie it wont play MP4 and for whatever reason it struggles sometimes with AVI's, especially football AVI's! Plays movies fine though and music videos!

The second one is http://www.cooldrives.com/dvavabmupl.html - when NEO wouldn't work I this one, but then got NEO to work so I haven't really used it. The one thing I did note with it though is that it has a fan, which can be a little annoying. NEO doesn't have a fan and is pretty quiet.

Now I got both of these in the UK, so not sure how/where you'd get them in Oz, but JB would probably stock them!

Checked the website and it seems to be a Mac version only. Is there a PC equivalent?

By miles the best video converter on PC.

VisualHub is the best on mac. been using that for a while, quick (about 20 for a hour long file on a macbook).

Problem I have with Convertxtodvd is that when I've burnt it, there is always an audio delay on the dvd of about a second.

Agree!!! I found this paid the $$$ and it works a treat! Totally recommend this one as being EEEEEEAAAASY to use and it actually works!
