Corey Enright

A few posts have been leading to a trade of Corey Enright, which I cannot believe. Why trade a guy who is delivering for us week in week out. He consistantly gets 20 or so posessions, he is one of the guys in our midfield rotation that is consistant, why get rid of that ??

We have to get rid of the guys who are inconsistant, drop the ones who do not perform all the time or have had loads of chances to play, however have not delivered thus far.

Sure he would be a good trade option, where we can get something back in return, but I think we have far more mediocre players who also could get something back in return, especially draft selections.

Corey is a good player for our club, why let that go? Any thoughts ?

As silly as it may seem, Enright is replaceable. This guy never has to be accountable for an opposition player, and simply runs forward of the ball out of defence for recieves. Basically I think he is overated.
It is true that every team has these types of players, and they shouldn't be viewed as highly as some do... these days posessions don't mean much, especially Enright who gets the least amount of hard ball gets out of all the mid field at Geelong.

Enright wont get traded because he wouldn't be worth trading. A player like Tenace would attract more attention because of his pace and youth, and might get us a half descent player.

Yes, I believe Tenace is a good option, but he is also one of the things we are looking for, PACE. The only problem with him is his disposal whilst at full speed.

Corey has some good stats, he is 18th in total disposals, 13th in total kicks and 14th in uncontested posessions. Sure they are uncontested and he doesn't get many hard ball gets, but as a link player he is quite good. His disposal error rate is also quite low in comparison to some others in the team.

Imagine having a guy like Bate at GFC, he is a good, quick and accurate player. Hope we can find someone like him in the draft.

Other options I see are Macarthy, KK, Lonergan and as stated Tenace. The rest should be kept another year at least. We will have to also drop Gardiner, who just hasn't been settled nor good in the last year and a bit.

Nah I definately wouldn't trade him as he is one of the few players in the afl who still predominantly delivers the ball by foot rather than by hand and he doesn't mind kicking it long to the forwardline

Just trying to stop the Yokos around here from breaking up the band . But I like what Enright does for us - he seems to be good at reading where the ball will be and getting there.

I do think Enright is under-rated. In other words I think he doesn't receive as much credit as he should get. I think he does a lot of things that don't get noticed. But thats just my oppinion. You said everyone has realised that he is a softy?!?!?! WTF? hahaha I don't think he is soft at all! I'd like to here if anyone else follows your view of him being soft.

Enright was named in Geelong's best in round 17, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 5, 3, 2 and 1. Hmmmm maybe he isn't under-rated after all. Haha Also Enright is leading the number of kicks at the GFC.

Doesn't it explain itself? Having him in the team is such a bonus. All the possessions he gets each game makes him so valuable. I can't really explain it anymore! It's a simple concept, well for me it is. Might be best to just forget I said it and move on. lol

Don't just follow the ball you fool.. Go to games and watch the game properly.. He never goes in hard, just waits for the recieve. I'm afraid the stats speak for themselves.. he has the least % of hard ball gets out of the midfielders, which makes me right sunshine.. despite what others say. I decided to look around the stats website that MartyK mentioned, and came up with the following stats. Enright ranks in the top 5 at GFC in clearances, disposals, rebound 50's, inside 50's and long kicks, ranks in the top 50 in the league in disposals, rebound 50's and long kicks.

As MartyK alludes to, Enright might not go in hard and waits for the receive, but who cares?? He averages 1.3 contested possessions a game BUT this is better than players such as Ryan Griffin, Andrew McLeod, Nathan Bassett and the Bowden brothers, and not far behind players like James Clement, Nathan Buckley, Brendan Goddard, Adam Cooney and Nick Stevens.

I guess these stats back up Jess's claim that Enright is a greatly underrated player, a view shared by people like Robert Walls and Essendon's assistant coach Robert Shaw.

Enright is a flanker and gets the cheap handball receive out the back, probably in the higher bracket of top flankers although it aint a terribly hard possy to play... Look at the Lonie brothers.

We wouldnt miss him too much and he aint fast or a long kick which other receivers have over him.

His 2005 season (before injury) was sensational. He has shown glimpses this year of that form but has not been consistent.
